My baby's eyes??

My little girl apparently has very wet eyes. You know, the kind that makes tracks down her little face. Any suggestions on how to help her? In trying to keep her face clean, I have tried warm washcloth w/a little soap. Didn't work.

Sounds like she has allergies. It could be her food (grains, chicken) or environmental. What kind of food and treats do you feed her? I would start by looking at the ingredients in her food.

I had that same issue with Lucky....I know a little runny is normal but I noticed that when DH or myself had the fan on in our living room this is what made it alot worst. So, I am thinking that maybe it was just housedust lingering in the air...
With your baby, maybe the little tear pools located in the eye corners are just very small and there is nowhere for the tears to go but just to overflow out the corners.....I have learned here that if it's has a mucus like texture or is discoloured(greenish or yellowish) to follow up with your vet!

It could also be due to teething and even genetics, although Joey had a bad case when I switched foods, so allergies are something to consider. Here's a great link on causes and cures. Remember, what works for one person won't work for another; it depends on what's causing the problem. Thanks for the great suggestions. She is going to the vet this week. I will ask the vets opinion.

We had a lot of luck when we switched from tap water to distilled water for Chloe. It really cut down on her "tears". I read that often excess minerals are shed via the tear ducts; giving distilled water cuts down on the dog's mineral intake and thus also helps with the tear stains. Granted, if your pup's problem is allergies or some other source, then this may not help. Just speaking from my experience!

P.S. Also, distilled water has been great for us b/c we travel at least once a month and changing up Chloe's water was causing her to have an upset tummy. No more problems in that area now either!

Are any of the nutrients that are in tap water missed by the puppies when using distilled water. I thought that some of the trace elements in tap water where required for our health.

I have the same problem with one of my girls. I wash the area everyday with a warm wash cloth, then several times a day blot it with a dry tissue. You could try putting a thin coat of petroleum jelly on the hair where the tears run, that way they don't lay on the skin and cause a yeast infection from the moisture. My Sophie just had one, and it smelled like vomit!!! It was so disgusting. Shaving around the eyes also seems to help. Good luck

well it seems that you have plenty of advice on how to stop it but in case you cant i have a product called angel eyes it is really old my best friend gave it to me when cleaning out her dog stuff i have a chi mix that had very runny eyes (the problem fixed itself) i know you can still buy some thing not sure what its called but its a tear stain remover

i am not talking about the pills it is a liquid that you put on a cotton pad and wipe away the stains and it does work

I read up on it quite a bit and didn't see anything regarding the dog's health and tap water. Really the only debate was whether or not it worked to fix the leaking eye problem.

Our vet is actually the one that recommended distilled water the first time we had problems switching tap water. (This was after I'd read about it fixing leaky eyes, but before we'd started using.) We went to visit my parents and I forgot to bring water from home (it was only our second trip with her). Chloe ended up vomiting and having diarrhea. We called the vet right away and she recommended the distilled water to prevent further problems (along with instructions for immediate recovery). Plus...around here you can never be too sure what they are putting in the water. I don't trust it to drink for myself!
