| My Joey has lost an adult tooth!!! Oh no!! I have a question, I'm totally freaking out! Last night I was just checking Joey's teeth (I check their mouths sometimes, just to see that all is well), and I noticed that he has lost one in the middle of the front (if that makes sense...), and the one next to the space is loose!!!! I'm so scared my little boy's teeth aren't gonna be there or something by the time he's 3! His second birthday is in May. I don't know why he would be losing his adult teeth...I brush them sometimes, I'm not good about every day, but I would say once per week or so...they eat hard food, and they have dental chews and ropes that they chew on...he does have some tartar on his canines and back teeth, but the very front ones didn't seem to be in bad shape! His gums don't look swollen, either. What could be causing it?!? Could it have been trauma, or do you guys think it's some sort of gum disease or tooth decay? Does anyone have any experience with this? I'm so scared for my baby boy!

| It could have been trauma, but it also could be periodontal problems. It would be best to let the vet take a look. He may or may not need the other one pulled. My girl had to have nine teeth pulled at age five. Brush daily if possible (and at least 3-4 times a week). Feeding hard food to prevent dental disease is considered a myth by some and dental chews don't always do what you want them to do...

| I'm going to hope and pray it was trauma...but I'm gonna be better with the brushing now...I will take him to the vet next month, when he's due for some shots.

| Daisy lost a few teeth as a young pup. It was not due to trauma, nor was it due to periodontal disease. It was just her poor puppy mill breeding. We've tried to keep the others in her mouth, and the ones she has are very white and clean and sharp like daggers. It happens, just do a check to make sure your dog's remaining teeth are in good shape

| hmm...I never even thought about it being bad breeding. Joey was from a pet store, as much as I hate to say it...we didn't know what we were doing when we bought him, and we really didn't know any better. I hope that's all he looses if that's what it was from! Thanks for the replies, guys. More are welcome though!
