Senior Yorkie Talker | eat before walk or walk before eat? schedule problems I just wonder, people who take their dogs for walks in the morning...do you feed them right after their long night of sleep or do you take them straight outside for a walk before you feed them? Do they pee and poo before they walk or do they walk then come back and poo inside? I'm just trying to figure out a schedule for Lexi. For example when I eat, I don't want to run right after... are dogs the same? because I see her eating and then running back for more food. Last night she held her pee 8 hours! I was surprised because the pee pad wasn't even wet. This morning was a LOOONG one! LOL

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Is the walk an exercise only walk or is the purpose for elimination? Eating does stimulate the bowels, and many dogs have to go within 5 minutes of eating. Since most yorkies get at least two meals a day, they are usually not "full" after eating, and this shouldn't make them too tired to walk or run. You can probably do it whichever way you like. We base our walk time on the weather.

| I take mine out first thing in the morning and then I take them when I get home from work. All before feeding them. Sometimes I will really get them riled up before feeding them, this sometimes seems to help get their appetite going.

YT 500 Club Member | My two go out in the garden first thing in the morning to pee, they'll then poop after eating their breakfast. I did try to get them to go for a walk first before eating but they point blank refused once they realised it was delaying their food.[ I was trying to potty train Rosie at the time]. They get walked before their dinner though. |

| This is our general schedule: ~6:30am Up and out of bed. Immediately outside. We pee 3-4 times, and 90% of the time poop too ~6:45am Back inside. Remy gets 1 NV medallion and a piece of carrot Then I work out, and do work from home ~9:00 We take a long exercise walk, and we pee and poop again ~10:00 Back inside. Remy gets 1 NV medallion ~11:00 We head to the office, Remy pees again en route outside Noon-ish - Remy gets 1 NV medallion ~ 4:00 Long walk, and we pee ~5:00 Remy gets final medallion for the day, usually with a carrot ~7:00 Leaving office, we pee again ~10:00 Walk before bed |

| I would think it was important to take the dog out first thing in the am so he/she can relieve themselves. How can you eat when you need to potty? I had a dog walker who, after Buddy was in the house for 7hrs would feed him then take him out. I thought this was nuts. To me it would be common sence to let the dog relieve himself so he can eat and be comfortable. I actually had to tell the dog walker to do this. Hello! Buddy get's walked first thing Mon-Fri at 6 am, feed at 6:30, out again at 8:10 and off to work I go. Then out again at 5:30, feed at 6 then out again at 9:30 for the night. I can't imagine enjoying food if I had to go potty |

| I believe they should be walked either one hour after eating or one hour before eating.

| 5:00 am wake-up and breakfast (she will go dance around her food dish or sit in front of the cabinet where I keep her food) 5:15/30 am - DBF walks her before he leaves for work. 6:30 am - I walk her before I leave for work (she sometimes poos) 3:00 pm - I get home from work and walk her right away. Sometimes she just pees, but she almost always poos at this time. 5:00 pm - dinner There may be a walk or two to pee in between dinner and the final walk. 10/11:00 pm - final walk and then bed

Me too! In the morning she knows when I'm getting ready to leave because we do the walk first. I put her breakfast down right before I walk out the door. After work I walk her first because she is so excited to see me that she needs to let all the excitement out. Then we come in and she watches me fix her dinner. The funny thing is lately she won't eat hers until I fix mine and she fusses until I do and come and sit with her. So I fix my dinner and we eat together

She has a pee pad indoors, when she wakes up she usually goes on it immediately and relieves herself. She hasn't been outside as much and she just got her rabies shots (now im more comfortable with her roaming outside). I'm going to start training her to go outside now. She loves outdoors! i guess there is so much for her to explore! Does Buddy hold it for 9 hours? My Yorkie is a toy size, She can hold it for usually 4 hours, the only time i've seen her hold it 8 hours was that one night. Maybe she slept all the way through the night.

Senior Yorkie Talker | Ouuu....tough choice! I think Lexi is too lazy to walk or eat when she wakes up, I guess she needs time to warm up in the morning.
