If it was just today, it could be that they ate a little too much. Higher protein foods should produce firm # 2's...& stinky too lol.

They have been on just the orijen only since Tuesday. Up till then I was mixing. Its been since Tues. Im really thinking the the red meat one may be better. A long time ago when I was feeding Nat. Balance I tried their fish one and has soft poos too, thats why Im thinking it may be too rich. I dont want to keep changing and having their tummy get upset, but Im stressing out trying to figure out what to do...help,

I need something w/out white potatoes & chicken....*sigh*

I, too, prefer a lower protein kibble. And, my Daisy is allergic to chicken. I am feeding Evanger's Pheasant and Brown Rice. Very high quality kibble, small bits and both of mine gobble it up.

thanks, but that has rice and rice is a grain. We are trying to get away from grains and chicken....Im so stressed....................

Linda, have you looked into this food? NOW! Grain Free Pet Food

It was recommended to me recently and I like the looks of it. It contains turkey, duck and salmon and has a moderate amount of protein (26-27%). Alexander is terribly allergic to chicken but he does fine on turkey and duck, so I think I'm going to pick up a bag to try next week.

It's so hard to find a grain free kibble w/out chicken & potatoes...Momo can't have white potatoes due to a sensitive GI tract/IBD.
I found a boutique in Pasadena that carries Acana Grasslands, going to pick it up later today.
Linda, have you looked into Acana grain free? It's the same company that makes Orijen.

thanks Bonnie, I checked it out, but there is no where around here to buy it. Id really like to try something first. Today now poo is firming a bit but theyre appetites were nil this morning.

Sorry - I must have missed the grain-free part. I feel your pain being stressed - it took me forever to find a kibble that I liked and both my pups liked!! Good Luck!

Hey Linda,

We switched to the Orijen Red this week as we too needed a grain-free, chicken-free option and so far Armani is doing well and her poop is good. The remarkable thing is that she will eat it dry and I even get a wagging tail when she smells it. My little girl is a very, very picky eater and since the age of five months old she has firmly refused to touch dry kibble PERIOD. When I discussed switching her food with the vet this week, I was advised to mix her new food with the old food for a week, less of the old food day by day. As Mimimomo inquired, is it possible that you may need to switch them a little more gradually? I hope you find a solution soon, I know how distressing this is for you and the little ones.

I mixed the food with the old for 4 days, having no problem I switched over. Although last night and this morning poo all looks better, now Im having problems because a few of them are refusing to eat it. I think I will go down this afternoon and get the red meat one. Evo also has one small bites with red meat, Im wondering if they would like that? I have been cuting the orijen in half, they like the smaller bites. Talk about a spoiled bunch. But..........Im determined. Im going to get them switched over to something more healthful for sure, one that all can eat and that will hopefully help our alergy problem.

I have good experience with EVO. And also Before Grain might be a good option too.

is the evo small bites smaller than the orijen kibble? I checked out the before grain, it contains chicken meal.

I know what you mean, Linda. That's how I came across this. None of the local stores carry Orijen/Acana and they can't order it for me.

One store does carry Petcurean and offered me samples....I really hope my gang likes it. I know how hard it is to find something heathy and that makes them all happy.

Orijen comes with just fish. Calleigh & Patti have been eating this for a while now and have had no adverse effects.

I don't know why all the foods have Chicken in them - a lot of dogs are allergic like my Westi (Molly). She is on the low fat Orijen.
