| Have to have baby teeth removed Hi, Im new here but I could use some help. My little girl is 9 months old. she was spayed last week, but the vet would not remove her baby teeth. He said he was not comfortable with how small her jaw is and wants me to see a special dentist. Has anyone had to do this? Is this common? I have always been told that they normally just do this with a spay or neuter. She weight 2.5lbs and has had no heath problems at all. The dentist is a couple hours away. Should I just try a different vet? We know she needs this done because her breath could kill someone. Any help would be great. |

| She is rather small and I respect the fact that he did not want to take the chance of something happening to her jaw during the extraction. I would take her to a specialist just bc of her size. I mean you may try a different vet and he may say I can do it and have a tragedy on your hands. If it were my baby I would go to a specialist. That is just my opinion. good luck

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I think I would have rather found a vet who would do it all at once; did he tell you after the surgery or before? The problem is another vet will have to use anesthesia again, and there is always some risk to anesthesia. I would be really upset, but I think you should find a vet that specializes in small animals, and see what he has to say.

| He didn't tell me until she was out of surgery. I really was surprised, I was told that it would not be a problem when I made the apt. and again when I dropped her off. I'm going to see the specialist, but I think I need to wait a while. I hate the thought that she has to be put under again. Can someone tell me, does this have to be done by a special age? |

| Thank you, I'll take her to see the dentist as soon as she has healed from her spay. I know I have to take care of her teeth. I, like you, was more concerned with her teeth than the spay. But I was not given a choice in the matter. I was not happy that he did not tell me this before her put her under, so I had a choice to find a specialist who could do both at the same time. |

| My yorkie had some baby teeth removed when I had him neutered. As long as she's healthy its definately a good idea just because of their small mouths and the plaque they seem to collect. The regular vet did my dog's teeth, might be worth checking if a vet can do it rather than a special dentist... |
