| Teary Eyed Puppy I'm a first time Yorkie Dad. My boy, Yankee is 10 weeks old. his eyes are tearing up and running down his snout. Is this normal? Is there a way to stop it? Will it stop? |

| With puppies that young it's usually because their nose hair is standing up and getting in their eyes. Trimming the hair near their eyes should take care of the problem. |

| It's possible...those hairs around their eyes can be pretty hard to see and there could be loose pieces in his eyes too. What food are you feeding? Some foods can also cause eye tearing. Most of the time it's the hair in the eyes with puppies though. |

| I try to just keep the hair wiped out of the eyes, because if you cut it, you have to cut it again, and again, if you can get it grown out past that point, it is (to me) an big advantage! I personally use tea, on a washcloth to wipe. Partly b/c tea is anti-bacterial, and Ph neutral, so it doesn't hurt, and if the problem is bacterial, it helps! Just my 2 cents worth!

| Reesie's eyes used to get all teary and would goop up when we first got him. I think it was a combination of hair in his eyes and the food he was on. He is eating Orijen now and the goop is gone.

| How assuring! I took Yankee to the Vet today for his booster shots. So I asked about the tearing. The Vet recommened I try a different food and see what happens. He gave me a free sample. It's Hill's Science Diet. Any reviews? |

| My 4 month old Morkie has this issue too. I always thought it was normal until reading this thread. I feed her Orijen puppy, so perhaps I will switch her over as I already have concerns about it being hard on her little 3lb body since it's so high in protein. |

| Hello!!! My Snickers is 1.5 yrs old and he has battled with teary eye boogers since I've had him at 8 weeks old. Snickers is on a raw rotation diet with incredible quality foods and I am still dealing with the tearing. I have tried al proteins and it still happens. It may be something you deal with through your entire Yorkie lifetime. We have tried doing many things including using a stainless steel water bowl, distilled water, apple cider vinegar & white vinegar in his water. One thing that helped a bit is Angel Eyes which is a powder which contains an antibiotic called Tylosin. It has not stopped his tearing but has reduced it and now his tearing is clear instead of dark red/brown like it used to be. Good luck Snick & Viv
