Donating YT 500 Club Member | I would start just about as soon as you could. Even if you're not actually trimming much off at first, just kind of going through the motions, will get them use to the procedure.

| Getting them used to it will help with grooming. It takes two or three groomers at PetSmart to groom Bandit's nails even though I tried to get him used to it, but on Nala when she was a puppy I practiced just with a file so she's better. You should probably get them done on the first grooming. |

| Early as possible! I wish I started earlier with Jackson. He's TERRIBLE with getting his nails cut. I can actually do it at home but it takes a long time and a lot of patience. Sometimes I'll do 1 paw, then do another paw the next day. He's a lot calmer for me than when I take him to a place. He flipped out at petsmart!

| When they start "clicking" I read that it a good idea to start handling your puppies feet right away (like when you're petting & loving on him), the theory being that when it comes time to clip their nails, it won't be as traumatic. We did this with our pups, and while I can't guarantee it works, I think it made some difference...Coco is definitely more tolerant of nail trims than Gracie is, however. My wife holds the puppy while I clip the nails. |

| Trim trimminee Believe it or not, when they were tiny, we used a pair of human toenail clippers. Now, they're about a year old, we use the "scissor" style clippers. I think they give you a little more control. |

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Human toenail clippers is what my vet instructed me to use with Ruby as a pup. Now, we also use a scissor type clipper.

| I had that exact same issue with mine and I can't do it. It hurts me to scare him like that, same with the blow dryer. I'll be taking him to the vet or groomer to get it done soon.

| I used a small battery operated Dremel tool to file my Maddie's nails. My daughter would hold her and slowly feed her small pieces of nacho cheese Doritos! I know, not the best treat for her, but she loves them and that was the only time she got them. The Doritos distracted her enough that I could file her nails down. The nail filing thingie they sell on TV didn't work. The opening on the protective guard that the nail went into was too deep for my Maddie's nail to reach the grinder. When I first started, I did let her sniff the Dremel while it was off, the turned it on without it touching her, then touched her nails to it while it was off. Even put pieces of Dorito on it while it was off for her to eat. I have since had tile installed throughout the house and no longer have to worry about this, the tile and walks keep her nails filed down. |
