| Depressed or Sick Yorkie ? I purchased a 1 year old Yorkie last week, I was advised she is a little shy which she is but warming up very well. She is sleeping all the time, last night was the only time I seen her for about 10 minutes a little energized. When we went to Pet Smart she was happy also. Apparently the previous owner had other dogs which she got rid of before my Maggie. She also said she was a very active dog, I have not seen this yet. Her appetite is very low if anything, last night she ate maybe 1/2 cup of food but that is the most yet. I took her to the vet on Friday to make sure to get shots up-to date and advantage because she had a flea problem. Her heart rate is only 95, the vet said 150 is more the area for a Yorkie, she is also quite skinny and I can see her backbone so that is why i am trying to encourage her to eat and gain some weight. I am hoping this is an adjustment issue and not that she is ill. Has anyone else experienced a transition to a new home like this, I am hoping she is just depressed. She is a sweet little girl, the previous owner is adament that she was a happy normal yorkie. |

| I have had my Haley for about a month now. I got her on a Friday night. She is very tiny, and I can feel her ribs too. She would not eat alot at first, and she even had blood in her poo once. I took her to the Emergency Vet who said she had Giardia, and a few more problems that worried me. I took her to my vet at the first of the week, and he said she tested neg. for the Giardia, and that she was a good weight for a yorkie. After a few days with me she started eating better, playing more, and now she is running the place. I cant say that it is the same in your case. I would take her to your vet if are cocerned, but in my opinion it is normal for them to be scared at first.

| Hi and welcome. That seems like an awfully big difference on what a heart rate should be, did the Vet tell you what to do about that? If not I would find a new vet quickly. Are you feeding the same food as the puppy was on before? The puppy needs to eat I would get some nutrical or karro syrup to make sure that its blood sugar is up. Also try feeding a small amount of plain boiled chicken see if that peaks interest. |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Congratulations on your new baby. Hopefully she is just adjusting to her new home. If the vet didn't do a fecal test I would take in a sample right away to rule out any parasites that may be causing her to be so thin and tired. Keep us posted.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | Roxy is almost 8 lbs & has never eaten more than 1/2 cup of food a day. Nearly everyday there is a little left over. Her weight is very good. Have had her on 3 different foods since we got her & it was the same on each brand. If Maggie is shy, it may just be taking her awhile to settle in to her new home. Be sure to keep up with medical part to make sure she is good & healthy. Welcome to YT!

| The only suggestion the vet said, possibly run an EKG on her, possible liver shunt is why she is so skinny. However I did not read anything on low heartrate being a symptom of liver shunt. She said give her 2 weeks to monitor her behaviour. I will have a different vet next time because she also gave me Interceptor for heartworms and I have been advised not to give your dog this medicine unless a heartworm test has been done first or it can kill your dog. Luckily have not given it to her yet, I will send in a fecal sample tommorow and I am treating her for worms in the meantime in case. She is really sweet just low energy and looks sad. |

I see your in Windsor, which vet clinic are you going too? If you are going to Lauzon Vet. There is a few vets in there that are NO good at all. Theres only one that I would trust in there. As for her personality, she sounds just like my Stormy was. The lady had said a bunch of things to me about her but she never was any of those things, she was always very laid back, never played, was a picky eater. She was very sweet and loving though. | |

| Update I am going to Bracks in Windsor, they are not sure what is wrong with her, blood work shows infection, not sure from where. I did xrays because they thought perhaps pyometra. That is not sure either, so we urged them to give antibiotics and see how she responds. They also said maybe Parvo, which nothing I can do for that but wait it out and nurse her to health hopefully, but she doesn't have all the symptoms either. Tommorow will be day 2 of medicine, so I am hoping to see some improvement tommorow. I am hand feeding her, she will take very small amounts and giving her water with syringe 8 times a day because she is not taking water. She is starting to fight me a bit which I am hoping means she is getting a little strength. I will keep you posted |

| Doing Better Still not sure what the cause is for her illness, she is on 2 antibiotics and i have her eating and drinking. She is putting on weight, I am just hoping once the antibiotics are done she doesn't get ill again. So she seems to be making good progress. |
