Puppy is hospitalized Hi all, Sprinkles, who is 4 months old is hospitalized tonight. She had last series of shots yesterday (incl. rabieis). As usual after her shots she was kind of lethargic. I made sure she ate during the day. This morning I noticed that she vomited with blood. We went to the emergency room and they insisted that she stays there overnight. Her doctor wasn't sure why thhere was blood. She said that but for the vomitting w/blood, it'd be a normal reaction to the vaccine. The blood made the things more serious. We'll know more info once they run the tests. Has anything like this happened to your little ones?

Poor Sprinkles. I hope she feels better soon. Vaccines can be rough, especially when they are given in combinations. With a reaction like this I would research other alternatives like nosodes in the future. Hope it is nothing too serious and she is better soon.

I hope Sprinkles has a good night and a very speedy recovery. You are both in my thoughts and prayers. My sleeve Peke, Ming had a rabies innoculation at 7 months, vomited blood. The shot caused an ulcer (previously undedected)) to bleed. She is fine now. Ming had a 3 yrs. rabies a year later and stayed overnight at her vet's for observation, no reaction. Hang in there, I'll be looking for your update. Jessica

Please let us remember that this is not a thread about personal opinions on vaccines. This is a thread about little Sprinkles. Please let us know how she is doing today.

Update from Sprinkles Hi all, Thanks to everyone who replied yesterday. Just wanted to post an update on how we're feeling after being hospitalized. The first Vet in the emergency room was absolutely sure that the reaction Sprinkles had was NOT due to overdozing or having too many shots at ones (4 different vaccines for a 4-month old who weighs 2.2 lbs) However, this morning when we picked her up, another Vet, who is an older gentleman said that her bloody vomit was most likely due to the vaccinations. Anyway, she is doing ok. They discharged her with a "clean bill". My question is this: Since Sprinkles came home from the hospital, she hasn't done #2 yet even though she's been eating throughout the day. She only produces a very smelly gas (it NEVER happened before). Any recommendations? Can it be due to the fluids she received at the hospital?

Im glad that Sprinkles is much better. Next time tell the vet to give the vaccinations one at a time. Sprinkles can be constipated cause of the meds or fluids she got at the hospital. You can give her some pupmkin or some mineral oil.

| Sure hope it isn't too serious... hope she gets better soon... My little 4 month old "Dewey" had his shot too recently, incl rabies, and that's when he got this cough and sick like symptoms... I dont know if it was a reaction, but will know today when i take him to the vet to make sure. I wish these little breeds didnt have to have such powerful vaccinations put into their tiny bodies.... Best Wishes.
