Eating poo!!! Ew... Help!

I know te topic has been discussed... I know many dogs just do it and that it is actually a hard wired behaviour... Dog eats feces - dogs that eat poop - Article on Pets.ca - my Greman Shep used to do it when I was a kid.

Sammy eats well, drinks lots of water, gets nutricious snacks and some fresh veggies like carrots now and then. The poo gets cleaed up as soon as I see it... I am not sure if those store bought addatives will work making the poo taste bitter.

He is only 5 months old - has anyone else seen their puppy grow out of this behaviour. I do have to learn not to get mad about it. He sneaks off to another room to either play , chew on my armoire or... eat poo - he knows its not a good thing to do...

Pixie is 5.5 months and still eats poo ocassionly I have tried canned pinapple and that does help. I just have to give it to her every day a lil bit though.

Have you tried Solid Gold's S.E.P. yet? That can work quite well. Also, if you are feeding a grain-based food, you may want to switch to a grain-free kibble...

Ann, do you feel comfortable giving them S.E.P.? I haven't researched it yet and probably won't if you say it's ok , but Maddox is eating his poop and he now has Tate doing it, too! They won't eat pineapples. I need to find something that works because both boys love to kiss their mommy and mommy knows what been in their mouths.

Oh, darn! I used it when Wylie was young - when we used to feed kibble and he went thru a poop-eating stage. The S.E.P. worked immediately for him - we used it about 2 mths, then stopped, and he didn't start eating poo again .

Ingredients: Dicalcium Phosphate, Rice Flour, Glutamic Acid, Peppermint, Yucca Schidigera Extract, Beef Liver, Oil of Parsley, Natural Flavoring

The weird thing is, it doesn't seem to work for every dog and I don't know why. I can't really recall what I was feeding when he started poop-eating. I know after that...I was feeding more higher protein...so that probably helped..?

Oh! And "meat tenderizer" is the other thing that helps some doggies too....

I called around and can't find it locally, so I'm going to order some. It's worth a try!

I feed NV Instinct, which is a higher protein grain free food. I free feed so there's always food available - he can't be hungry. I've started leaving the Himalyan chews out for them so he always has something gnaw on.

I'm hoping it's just a puppy thing. He doesn't care whose poop he eats - he likes it all!! And now little Tate likes it too....

Darn! No I haven't tried that. I've read about people using it for this but I forgot all about it. Oh, well. Amazon had good reviews on the SEP so I just ordered some & I'll see how that works first. Keep your fingers crossed for me!

Great input so far. I am going to try some of these suggestions and see what happens. I have been feeding him Nutrience dry food - it does have yeast and some grains in it. What are some good low/no grain high protien brands?

Winston used to eat poo too. I researched it and it's called Coprophagia (just means your dog eats poo). I bought Coprophagia Deterrence from Petsmart. It works. It's 1 tablet, crushed up in food, per 20 lb dog 2x a day. We use half a tablet for his size. When I walk him and if he sees another dog's poo, he still tries to eat it, so the Coprophagia Deterrence is something that he can smell on his poo & it stops him from eating it.

My Mitzi is 7yr and she is still eating her poop. She will go thru cycle of eating it and some she does not. She usually get very gassy so I have to be careful what I give her as far Medicines goes.

What is S.E.P?
I just bought the Excel Deter coprophagia treatment tablets and gave 1 to Maggie..I hope it works. She eats her poo like if it's meatloaf!!! It's disgusting!!

S.E.P. stands for Stop Eating Poop. Nice name, huh? It's made by Solid Gold and Ann has the ingredients listed in her post. I ordered mine yesterday - I figured it's worth at try. I'm praying it works!!
