| I dont know where to put this as its about Hollyhocks ears and they arent infected or sick or anything. After I bathe her she scratches her ears and cries. I dry them but they look kind of red and hot after she's messed with them. They arent like wet or have open sores on them and it seems to be the skin on the long part of her ear. She seems to do this quite often and Im at a loss. She gets a bath at least 2 times a week and I dont put shampoo directly on her ears or face. I use some of the sudsy water, rinse her well and dry her with the blow dryer, which she enjoys. I cant really afford a vet visit unless she was very ill. I also put a little fleapowder on the outside flap of her ears. She isnt scratching till they bleed or anything they just seem irritated. I know animals can get mites but I dont see any in her ears. Any ideas? Please? lol Free

| Yorkies have hair that grows inside their ears that needs to be plucked. This could be causing the itching. Or, her ears might be dirty. Ears should be cleaned once a week with special ear cleaner. It could also be that your shampoo is drying out her skin. Just a few ideas. Everyone on the forum is so helpful, I'm sure you'll find some good answers and possible solutions. We use an oatmeal based shampoo on Bella and make sure we rinse her really well to eliminate itching. Good luck! |

| Sounds like an ear infection. She needs to be seen by a vet. Whatever she has its probably deep in her ears. Sometimes water will cause fungus to grow, you will see signs usually 7 days after you bathe her. Keep us updated and give her lots of TLC.... |

| If she has mites you wouldn't be able to see them anyway. Do you see any white flakes along the edges of her ears? If yes, you can replace her heartworm treatment with Revolution for 2 months, but use it once then repeat in 3 weeks. You'll have to get it from your vet but I wouldn't have any skin scrapings done bc mites rarely show up on them. If it is mites, you'll notice marked improvement within 24 hours.

| you know I wondered about those little troll tufts of hair in her ears. I will take that out right away. The kind of mites Im talking about create a sticky black gunk in an animals ears but I cant see deep in her ear now because of the hair. lol I have to laugh, the hair tuft looks like my landlords ears! lol He looks like he has squirrels living in there. ...Ahem, but I digress. lol I will do those things and no she doesnt have anything crusty on her ears she just will sit and scratch at them and cry sometimes and it makes me feel TERRIBLE cuz I dont know anything about that. I only know cat stuff really. Im wondering if a saline solution (warmed) would clean out the ear. Thanks guys so very much/~!! Free
