| What to do! Hi guys! It's time for Nicco to get neutered... I'm really worried about him going for the surgery! Since this is my first puppy ever, I'm not too sure which things I should make sure he has and which options I should opt out of. I called the vet and they said that the base surgical fee is $305.02 and the exam before the surgery is $59.32. I then have the option of providing him with additional support such as: IV fluids, medication, and respertory, they check blood pressure for $47.25, fluid therapy if needed for $29.40, give mediation and an e-collar for $35, Microchip for $60.06, and anesthetic monitoring. Now, my question is..which out of these would be a good idea to do? If I should be getting it all then I will (which comes up to $585.91), I just want to know if there are certain things that I don't really need or Nicco won't really need. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you! |

YT 3000 Club Member | thats sounds pricey to me but chester was neutered back in 2003, the pre blood work is good to check for kidney and liver stuff, and the micro chip is good at that time but the other stuff I thought would be standard for surgery other than pain meds post op. I would check around, when chester was done he got pre blood work, chip and some teeth pulled and it was less than 200.00, I think it was around 150.00 or so, and the stitches were internal so the e collar was not needed, neutering is less invasive than spaying so Im not sure why the e collar except for licking the site, are they charging you more because he is small, fluids are normal for surgery not extra and bp as well. |

| It sounds pricey to me as well. When I had mine done, I just went with the pre blood work. All three did very well, no need for anything else not even pain meds. My boy and girl are over 6 lbs each and the other boy was only 3 lbs when I had him fixed and he came through with flying colors. As a matter of fact, the vet had warned that he would be zonked out but that never happened and he just went about his usual business like nothing had ever happened.

| I agree with both above, sounds really high! I just had Harley spayed about 6 months ago and it only cost me $135. That included everything down to the pain meds. However, I did not do a microchip. But still that's a considerably higher cost. I dunno, maybe the difference in areas?? Harley was really lazy for the first day, but after that back to normal. They told me to not let her jump up or down off anything, but it was almost impossible!

| don't know what the normal costs in Canada are but that sounds awfully high. Hot Rod had pre-op bloodwork, all the necessary things that go along with surgery and 14 teeth removed and it was (I think) somewhere in the $300.00 range--granted that was in 2008.

| I paid very close to that minus the e collar... but Laci was a spay which I guess is more money!! Is your vet removing baby teeth too? You can buy an E collar from someone on here and a better one that!

YT 500 Club Member | All I can say is WOW, cant believe how much your vets charge over there. I just had Rosie speyd on Monday and including the micro-chip it cost £100.41p. Dont know what the conversion rate is. Mine isn't the cheapest vet around either. They dont give pain meds as its to stop them feeling too well and running around too much, but I agree its almost impossible to stop them jumping around. I worried myself sick too and today she running around and being generally naughty. |
