| Hey there....hope all is going ok with Peanut. Our Snickers has/had LP and we also had surgery last Nov so please feel free to contact me with questions. We also figured Snick had it when he started lifting his leg. Our vet diagnosed Snick at a grade 3 but then specialist gave Snick a diagnosis of a 2, so be sure to see the specialist as well. We decided to go with surgery b/c we could see Snick limping/lifting often, and the lifting does indicate pain, or else the pup would not lift. Snick shakes when he is in pain, and he would shake a lot. He is doing/ recuperating post surgery very well. Colder days are harder, but he is much better. I highly recommend Glucosamine supplements!! Snick even has better days now post surgery when he regularly takes it. Good luck hun!!! Snick & Viv

| Our first little boy, Macho, lived to almost 15 with a grade 2. Never slowed him down until he hit about 10 or 11 and then he started to get a little arthritis and had to use a step stool to get up on the bed. He was very active, chased the cats, ran around the yard, had the occasional attack of zoomies. And for those that do have more serious grade 3 or 4 that do need it, surgery has come SOOOO far for these little guys. |

| There is nothing wrong with giving him supplements for stronger joints. I would disuss this would the vet to make sure that you are giving the correct types of supplements. I had a cat that needed cosequin. At one point I stopped giving it to her because I thought she was "all well" and she started her symptoms up again. Best of luck.

| I'm sorry to hear the Peanut is having problems. I took Gunnar for his regular shots, he is 16 months, and was shocked when the vet said that he has LP1 in both knees! Worse in the right knee. I'm very upset. He shows no signs, no limping or lifting a leg while running. She mailed me information, but didn't give me information on how to help him. So, I'll read the article that Capt_noonie gave to lovespandp. I'm just beside myself because he is so young! I hope I can still get insurance on him. One thing I haven't done yet. He is now microchipped and weighs 7.8lbs. My best to Peanut! Donna

| Oh sorry to hear about Gunnar. I wouldn't really worry TOO much about the grade 1. the supplements are great, just make sure to have him checked every so often, make sure it doesn't get worse, since he is so young.

I went to the Doc to take Sophie and the other dogs (Boarder Collie/Lab mix and my Boxer) for shots and a check up and asked and she said the Cosequin is the best, I am thinking about ordering some but haven't yet, she is no where near the surgery stage yet.

Insurance I have through AKC did that with me on one of my Show Dogs......he dislocated his left hip as a pup......too active and climbing out of his x-pen.......My vet performed the surgery and I submitted the paper work along with the vet costs.....they came back and said his condition was caused by an inherited condition. My vet wrote back to them submitting all tests and x-rays showing them the problem had been caused by trauma. Took about 6 months but, finally had to have an orthopedic surgeon verify that it was an injury.....finally got reimbursed.

I wouldn't worry too much about grade 1. Don't let him jump on and off furniture and hopefully it won't get any worse. | |
