| Flea Medication So I am looking to see if anyone's yorkie has the same reaction to the flea medication such as Frontline and Advantix that I give my Yorkie of 4lbs. When I put this topical on he gets all mopey and not happy for 24 hours. There has to be a better way of giving them Flea medication. I feel so bad when I give it to him! Help. |

| My male yorkie gets like that. He is 3.8 - 4 pounds. The vet gave me Promeris at first, but the poor baby would lay around for hours. It was horrible. I called Promeris and they refused to talk to me. They told me if I had issues I should have my vet call them. The vet didn't think the Promeris was what was making him act that way. I switched him to Frontline and it's not as bad. He is due for his Frontline on Christmas Day, it will have to wait until the day after.

| I've used Sentinel for years on 4 different dogs (1 Maltese and 3 Yorkies) and have never had a problem. They tolerate it very well. Once a month, and it also takes care of heartworm, whipworm, hookworm, and hookworm. When I got my first Yorkie (he was my own personal rescue), he was loaded with fleas. As soon as the vet determined he didn't have a heartworm problem, I put him on the Sentinel. The fleas went away within a couple of weeks and I have never seen one since (11 years and counting).

| Thanks for the responses. I did check with my vet and that is when we went from Frontline to Advantix. But no Success.. There has to be an answer. I did speak to Frontline about this and they told me to stop giving it to him and switch. It is a shame I can't find a pill with it all Heartworm and Flea/tick... |

But, I did see something on TV yesterday....all natural. Run a lint roller over your puppy, picking up fleas and ticks. Then douse with oil of Lavendar......suppost to be all natural. You can also make a natural flea collar. Normal soft collar douse it in oil of Lavendar and Citrus oil......then put it on the pup.

| Sentinal renders the fleas sterile. Whereas Revolution kills them immediately.

| Bad reaction to advantix 10 I applied Advantix 10 to my 3lb yorkie about 5 days ago and today I took off his little sweater to give him a bath and saw where I put the medicine he is extremely raw ( he hadn't been scratching or anything) I called the vet immediately and they gave him an appt for tomorrow and for me to call the company and see what they said about the reaction. Advantix said he should heal and to call my vet they didnt ask if he was in pain or uncomfortable and gave me a reference number! what the heck!!! am I supposed to do with a reference number. I just hope he is okay, my poor baby it looks like it hurts alot! he will see the vet tomorrow and hopefully they will give him something to help sooth it... ps. gave it to all my other ones on the same day and nothing... just my poor little Rudy...

| Thanks for writing..I still have not come to a conclusion with the whole advantix and frontline meds..My vet said that we can switch him to sentinal(spellng wrong) and that will take care of everything includig heartworm...And I guess for the ticks (it doesn't cover) I could give him a collar....I have a few months to figure that out before it gets warm...Good luck at the vet...Give him a good bath!!!!Maybe that will help the skin a bit! |

will happen when applying these products, their neurotoxins and they do have risks with use............. "They also can produce skin irritation, itching, and burning. In rats, they cause fetal loss and low birth weights." Some dogs are more at risk than others than others which is why the pup may have had a displayed a reaction. This is from a site explaining about these products..... Of course, not all dogs exhibit immediately noticeable symptoms when dosed with a commercial spot-on flea product. Adult animals and those in peak of health are less likely to show immediate signs compared to animals that are young, old, or suffering from chronic disease. Animals with a heightened sensitivity to chemicals or with exposures from multiple sources such as a flea collar; other dips, sprays, dust, or flea bombs; yard pesticides; and house termite extermination, are most likely to react. The cumulative and synergistic impacts of pesticides can take a heavy toll on animals. Dr. Jerry Blondell, of the US EPA Office of Pesticides, has indicated clearly “not to use pesticides on the old, the sick, or the young.” While some of the literature for the spot-on products does discourage this usage, many dog guardians and veterinarians overlook or disregard these written precautions. Although the number of dogs reported to react to these products may seem small, this does not suggest the overall impact is small. First, spot-on products are relatively new, and many problems are cumulative. Second, reactivity to chemicals in a population is similar to other population statistics and is represented by a bell-shaped curve. In other words, at one end of the spectrum are sensitive individuals, and at the opposite end are resistant individuals; these groups are relatively small compared to the vast middle group, who show varying degrees of susceptibility – but who are all susceptible. Thus the sensitive group – dogs who have displayed signs of toxicity – happen to be the sensitive ones, the younger, healthier ones will eventually be affected; it’s just a matter of time. I hope he's feeling better......

| Noticed in all of the posts that nobody had mentioned Advantage Plus. My vet recommends it because it treats fleas, ticks, hookworm, roundworm, and tapeworm. While it is a topical solution, the hair only looks greasy for about 24 hours and protects for a month. Stacey |
