| Sick sick yorkie My yorkie has had chronic diarrhea since the day before yesterday. I took him to the vet and he said that his anal glands (internal and external?) are inflamed. I am currently treating him with p.o. cortisone and and anti-diarrheal medication. I have been treating his posterior with Sween cream and am going to get Duraplast from the store tomorrow. I rescued him the week before Thanksgiving the previous owners beat him until he peed while rubbing his face into his feces (they admitted to me b/c he had feces stuck in his facial hair), left him chained during a 3 day thunder storm w/out shelter, and then the kids decided they didn't want him anymore so they allowed him to run down hwy.110. He was terribly matted and it tool my daughter and I 2 hours to defile him with tweezers...they were embedded in his chest. The mother and father both called me and said to come and get this dog NOW. I called the breeder to see if she wanted me to return the dog and she said "NO that he has a good home now" Thank God b/c I really wanted to keep the little guy. I have always wanted one but couldn't afford it. They paid a 1000.00 for him and he is eligible to be double registered(?). I have 7 other rescues but do not have any experience with Yorkies. I have gotten him caught up all his shots and things looked great until the night before. They only fed him cat food and when I got him I started him on Nutro Natural puppy with Nutro puppy sensitive stomach wet food. Then my hubby brought home Purina Gourmet Chef food and he has finished that up. Does this sound like the correct dx. His posterior is red and severely swollen. He is wearing a onesie to prevent licking. He really wants to eat solid foods but refuses to drink. I am withholding his regular meals and feeding him chicken broth and water with a syringe every 2 hrs. He still has not voided. However, he was able to sneak a few bits of dry food from the our Greyhound. His diarrhea stopped about 600pm. I am afraid to give him solid food b/c I don't want it to start back up. This was almost continuous watery diarrhea. The breeder said she has never heard of anything like this and the food changes should not have caused this b/c I have had him for so long. Did I do this to him by changing food? How do I prevent this in the future? Has anyone experienced this? Whatever you can tell me will be great!! I really want to learn about the breed and to be able to give my little guy the best life possible! Need advice... Read more: My 4 month old yorkie has inflamed anus. He has ... - JustAnswer |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Bless you for taking him in and all your rescues. Did they do a fecal exam to see if he has parasites? The foster pom I have right now is fighting Giardia and her first fecal was negative and then she started with terrible bloody diahrrea. I hope you get some good suggestions and he is better soon.

| Bless you and this poor little pup! I am in tears how could someone do that to a sweet innocent yorkie or any dog for that matter. I have a yorkie i have my share of minor health problems. He has a bladder stone and had a few seziures within the last 4 years. Based on my research and experience cat food is the worst to feed dogs, very high in proteins and basically garbage also commerical canned dog food is bad as well. Teddy was put on the HIlls medical preventative wet dog food after we discovered his stone. He hated it and eventually stopped eating it. I was soo worried and after hours and hours of research and buying several books including "The nature of animal healing" by Martin Goldstein" which i recommend you buy and read it is an amazing book that you can read over and over again. Before reading this book i began to feed teddy raw or barf pre-made mattys or medallions from Healthy paws. All i have to say is i will never take him off raw food if anything i will cook for him. His coat is shiny, bright eyes and appears to be happy and full of life. What triggered me to write to you is that Teddy had his last seziure during a horrible thunderstorm. I would advise that you be calm with this breed, they are very sensitive and esp what your little guy went through hell and those previous owners should get prosectued for animal curelty. If i had there information i would do it myself. Yorkies are fragile but very loving. Remember do your research, they are prone to liver shunts, poor teeth, and bladder issues. I hope this helps and guides you to learning about this unbelievably amazing breed of dogs. And remember hold your yorkie tight when theres a thunderstorm. | Also, the book that i recommend you read, to sum it up this doctor which is a vet for many many years has witnessed and still promotes that you allow the animal to heal himself. Obviously under the vet's care but anitbiotics etc coritsone are horrible for dogs. maybe you pup is going through a natural healing crisis and you just have to let him go through that?? maybe his body is detoxifying itself from all that horrible food etc he had when he was with the previous owners?? what did the breeder say who sold those horrible people the yorkie???? they should be cautious and also file a complaint on animal curelty. these guys are little and so innocent. i cant hold back jy tears poor little yorkie. give him a kiss on his head for me! xoxo |

| OMG that poor, poor baby. What must they think when treated so cruely? Those people are beyond human! So are their kids! Bless you for taking him in and caring for him. I would have him checked for parasites as well if this dosen't clear him up after the treatment being used now. A parasite gave Buddy the runs for almost 3mo before it was detected. It didn't show up in the stool because it was a male parasite and they don't lay eggs. Who knew? Wishing your boy good health and happiness in the future. Hugs, |
