| Wondering when my yorkie should go into heat? Hello! I'm new to yorkietalk and I'm also a new(er) yorkie mommy. I have had my yorkie Ryder for about 8 months. She is now 14 months old and as far as I've noticed she has not gone into heat. Is this unusual? Also, is it possible that she could have gone into heat without me knowing? I have been wondering what is going on and I'm getting worried that something may be wrong with her... |

| Uni didn't get her first heat till 13 months, but that is not that common. Most get it by 8 months. It is possible she already had one if you don't pay a lot of attention to her lady parts. Some keep themselves very clean, but you would notice the vulva swell quite large. I was quite surprised how big it got. Maybe some breeders on here can help out some more.

| I have been keeping an eye out and sometimes when I'm snuggling with her I will look to see if she is swollan at all. A few months ago she began humping her bed so I thought maybe she was going to go into heat soon? Also, Ryder is only 3.5 pounds. Could this have anything to do with her not having her heat yet? |

| I have no idea if weight has anything to do with it. Uni does not bleed a lot, but she is constantly licking, that there's no way we could have missed one. We were thinking the same thing that we missed her first one b/c it was so late, but once we experienced it we knew, there was NO way we could have just not seen it.

| I believe just like us they are all different. Mad is pretty little but went in arround 7months, it was not very noticable at all though exept for the fact that I have a boy, he was the give away, that and the licking. From what I have read, it is not uncommon for them to take longer. Just give her lots of love when it does happen, they seem like they just don't feel quite themselves.

| most of the time the smaller one do take longer.. so yeah i would say the weight has to do with it. but if like my female is humping things she may be about to be or in heat cause myn did that right befor she started bleeding i think to try and rub it from the swelling and prolly a little relief |

| well they go into heat every 6-8 months, but again every dog is different, and since you didn't witness the first one (if in fact it did happen) you wouldn't know from what month to start counting. Just keep an eye out.

| Some dogs just mature later than others. Can you talk to the breeder and ask about her mother? You might find some answers there.
