I kinow some will think that is a hard thing, but you are right, it works, they will eat when they are hungry. Water is a must, but the food will disapear when their tummys tell them it's time to eat.

| Yes, I found it very hard too, but then my trainer told me that yorkies need to be sure who is the leader of the pack to feel safe. And it is our responsibility to make them understand we are the leader. So you can see this exercise as a leadership exercise. And be comfortabel knowing that you will get a much more secure dog if you decide when and what it should eat. Yorkies can't test our leadership in many ways because they are so small, but they can do 2 things among others that are very common: - refuse to eat what you give them - run through doors before you Trust me, Kali never suffered by not eating. And I had tried it all, changing the food several times, sitting on the ******* floor FEEDING her like an idiot for days until my trainer told me that it wasn't because she was picky. ..and it's important for me to say that not being housebroken is not a sign of testing your leadership!

I try to feed my puppies ProPlan; however, they don't eat much of it. When they get away from me, I usually catch them eating the cat food. Which is probably why they don't eat much of their own food. During the day, I give them cheerios (good training snack) or puppy biscuits. Unless I'm giving them a snack, they don't have much of an appetite. Just like a child...

Bender is a very picky eater. From the very beginning he never liked dog bone treats. He doesn't even like hiding them! You give him one, he sets it on the ground, looks at it, looks up to give you a disapproving look, and then trots back to his bed to snuggle with his favorite stuffed toy. For the first year or so of his life we literally had to rotate food every week. There were about 10 different brands of dog food in the kitchen, and had my husband not strangely enough enjoyed to no end going out every week and 'wisely choosing' a new and improved brand of dog food, things might have gotten a little stressful. Oh, and Bender also will not eat 'stale' dog food. Some parts of his food are supposed to be a different texture than others when he chomps on them...he knows this, and if those parts at all stray from the norm, he will pick them out and leave them beside his bowl, or simply pick a few out, then refuse to eat any. For awhile we mixed half soft half hard food, and he seemed to like anything we mixed together, but it got pretty expensive, since my husband insisted we get the most expensive soft food on the market Luckily Bender found a food he fell in love with, Purina Puppy Chow. He eats it like it's goin' out of style...for over 6 months now, and our vet says if he likes it, it is perfectly healthy for him to eat it. Also, as far as treats go...he likes anything that looks and smells meaty. And strangely enough...he loves lettuce! I give him a little bowl of lettuce sometimes when I'm having a salad. It makes him feel important, and iceberg lettuce is the nutritional equivalent of water, so no harm done. Oh, and this is a bit off topic, as it is a personal food question, but Bender LOVES cooked broccoli, is this ok to feed him? I've had 3 yorkies but none of them before Bender ever liked veggies, so I'm lost in that area

Tigger was picky when we first got him, the breeder was feeding him Iams puppy, and since I'm a dog food label reader and skeptic, I changed him over to Nutro Ultra puppy. He didn't like that, so I took that back. Then I gave him Nutro Natural Choice Lamb and Rice Puppy, and he would eat it, but not as much as I would have liked Plus I don't know if it's a food allergy or what but he has/had dry skin. So I took that back and put him on Royal Canin Puppy 33. He loves it, he eats twice as much in one day then he did before. WOW!!! also for wet food, He gets Nutro Max puppy or he'll get Nutro puppy Lamb and rice. I'm unsure whether I'm going to continue with the wet Lamb and rice puppy food, until I find out whats causing the dry skin. I switched his shampoo to a diffrent brand, and am using oatmeal and baking soda conditioner, and am no longer giving him treats with a lot of sugar in it. so hopefully something helps soon. Plus I switched foods. His breeder was also feeding him Lil Ceasers but I put an end to that because of all the by-products. Tigger gets food with mostly all natural ingrediants. but yeah he had the same problem. Last edited by mylittletigger; 10-09-2005 at 10:11 PM.

I found a treat for Dudley that he LOVES!! It is Talk To Me Treats fresh dental care. It is found at petsmart and is 9.95 for over 250 treats. It smells like spearmint and has the texture of gum (don't ask how I know that). He eats them as fast as I give them to him. Of course he only gets 2 a day. Now if I could just find a food that he will eat that he doesn't puke up. He couldn't keep the Caesars down even though I mixed it and tried it slowly. This darn dog has more trouble with food. He did seem to like it better. So, I'm off to the pet store again to see what else I can find. I guess I'm too soft, I can't just let him starve. Thank you for all your help.
