Yes, I found it very hard too, but then my trainer told me that yorkies need to be sure who is the leader of the pack to feel safe. And it is our responsibility to make them understand we are the leader.
So you can see this exercise as a leadership exercise. And be comfortabel knowing that you will get a much more secure dog if you decide when and what it should eat.
Yorkies can't test our leadership in many ways because they are so small, but they can do 2 things among others that are very common:
- refuse to eat what you give them
- run through doors before you

Trust me, Kali never suffered by not eating. And I had tried it all, changing the food several times, sitting on the ******* floor FEEDING her like an idiot for days until my trainer told me that it wasn't because she was picky.

..and it's important for me to say that not being housebroken is not a sign of testing your leadership!
