| How much do I feed her? This is my first Yorkie, I usually get large dogs. My Yorkie is 13 weeks old. We've had her for 7 weeks. I took her to the vet last week for shots and they said she weighed 3 1/2 pounds. Am I over feeding her? I was told she will only get up to between 5 and 7 pounds. I give her about 1/3 to 1/2 cup of dry food ( Beneful) and a heapiny teaspoon of pedigree for puppies. She gets this twice a day , sometimes without the wet food. Plus small pieces of treats for pottying out side. The vet didn't say anything about her weight. Last edited by Elly123403; 10-04-2005 at 06:03 AM. Reason: misspelled word |

| Welcome to YT and congrats on your first yorkie! You have a little chubby If I were you, I would, over the next week, gradually change her food altogether. I think it is ok to free feed but it is important to feed a quality premium food with no fillers. They will probably eat less than something like Beneful. It is also important to find a food with no corn or byproducts. I use Natural Balance for Chewy but there are some fabulous premium foods, Canidae, Innova, Chicken Soup... I'm not a huge fan of Royal Canin because it has so much corn, but their kibble is small enoughh for the pups and it provides a good amount of fat. I started Chewy on this and then changed at maybe 5 months old. Good luck and post pics! |
