which food is best for pancreatitis

White fish (talapia being one of them) has a very low fat content. I would stay away from adding rice as it is very difficult to digest and if she really has pancreatitis could just add more problems. See my post on the other thread about the meds. Again, I recommend a consult with Susan Davis. You will spend far less money in the end by getting Ally well soon and Susan will have all the information you need for providing a balanced diet specifically for Ally's needs along with recommending the right supplements for her. LIke anything, you can spend lots of $ on supplements that aren't worth anything. Supplements are NOT made alike, just like vitamins. You need to know the difference between a quality supplement that will actually help her versus a crappy supplement you are paying money for that she is just going to immediately eliminate out of her body.

I am starting to think about low fat canned food to switch to after the rx food she's eating right now. i dont think she will be on the rx food for a long time so i have to start thinking about finding a low fat wet diet. i dont want to switch to kibble because she doesnt drink water and will get herself dehydrated. homecooking is in the back of my head right now but i'd rather not; first becasue i am scared that it won't be balanced enought for her; and second it's time consuming; thanks for any input regarding this pancreatitis subject. this is new to me; she was suffering with gastritis for a long time; and now this problem; i feel so helpless and i cant afford another episode. thanks much all of you for your time and advice.

Ideally, you want to bring the oils back in as dogs needs omegas. But you want to do this gradually. Also, vets don't know a whole lot about nutrition. If you are home cooking and doing this based on a diet formulated for your dog by a nutritionist- the supplements you are using might have some omegas in them. If not, you should probably ask a nutritionist what the best way is to bring oils back in.

Would your dog eat the kibble if you soak it in water first? I've had good luck with my cats by putting kibble in a microwave safe bowl, covering it with about twice it's volume of water and microwaving for 30 seconds. Let stand for 5 minutes until the water is absorbed, then mash so that it resembles canned food and serve. They love it and it gets them to consume the extra water that they need.

Dogs need fatty acids like linoleic. They do need some form of fat in their diet. The recipe also needs to be balanced by a nutritionist. Chicken and rice with no vitamins or minerals wouldn't be balanced and could lead to heart and blood problems over time (just from one ratio...cal/phos. being off).

When looking at canned foods, they have to be converted to a dry matter basis (remove the moisture mathematically) to figure out actual fat content. This food is about 16% fat.

really i didnt know that;
the rx food she's on now has 1.5% or 7% by calculation; so it's much less
she was on the honest kitchen dehydrated food which was 14.5%
where can i find food that has 7% or less after calculation?

i took her to the vet yesterday because she didnt want to eat; she examined her and saw nothing wrong; and then fed her there by a syringe; she said she's just doesnt like the food and gave her a b complex shot.
then around 8pm i fed her dinner; RC wet and dry rx food; she liked it and ate it.
then around 5am she vomited bile; then again 1 hr later vomited bile with clots of blood; also her stomach was making lots of gurguling noise.
the vet is closed and i cant afford ER right now; at least 1000 dollars;
so i gave her pepcid, sucrafate and reglan; now she's stable; not vomiting anymore and no stomach noise.
i want to know should i hold food for the whole day until i get her to the vet tomorrow;
can i at least give her water so she doesnt get dehydrated or hold that too; i dont want her to start vomiting again.

Use low fat vanilla yogurt (try the new PROBIOTIC ones) it will help stop the empty tummy vomiting.

I use THK FORCE for Monday who had pancreatitis 2 years ago and I thank Jodie (LuvMySissy) for the advice.
