| need to transition from homecooking to dog food Greetings, I will be boarding Roxy for about 7 days after Christmas and need to transition her from homecooking to a good dog food soon. Roxy is really spoiled and won't readily eat homecooked food that is more than a couple of days cooked or frozen and thawed-It's all my fault, but I must be away for a week. Roxy has not had a dog food in about a year and a half. Any suggestions?? (she currently eats a ground turkey recipe.) |

| What was she eating before homecooked? Obviously each dog likes something a little different, but the kibbles I'd recommend are Orijen, EVO, Wellness & CORE. |

Are you trying to permanently switch her to dog food? If so I can't suggest anything But, If not, I'd fix her normal food in a large amount and freeze it in separate serving freezer bags. Then I would take it to the boarding place and let them feed it to her. Hopefully they have a microwave. She will probably not eat well for a few days anyway, from being boarded, but eventually during that time she WILL get hungry and eat what is there for her, leftovers, frozen and all. The little royal princess will adjust, but when her royal servant (that's you mommy) returns home she'll need lots of love from being traumatized from eating that old food ...LOL!

| Maybe someone from YT lives close to you who would offer to babysit instead of leaving her in a boarding place... I always fear the horrible stories I read from them being boarded... Id try to see if we have anyone on here that could or would babysit for you , that way maybe she could stick to her current diet

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I agree w/ the kibbles AMD suggested. Also, you can try sprinkling canned Parmesan cheese on the kibble to make more "homey" for her (and the kennel could do that as well). Or, you could buy a bag of Freeze Dried Raw - and crumble it for her and use that instead of kibble. My boys actually LOVE crumbled Freeze Dried Raw if traveling (ie. Natures Variety).

I also agree with ann- you can put cottage cheese on her food- yogurt- something to make it "home cooked" while still being kibble.

| Many boarding places will feed your dog what you feed them. Why not cook up enough food for the week/divide into containers and leave it with the boarding place. They have refrigerators/freezers etc.

| canned Wellness? haha. I have a picky eater too. She will only eat if I am the one who feeds her--if my husband feeds her she looks at his oddly and walks away (even though she prefers him when it comes to cuddling). I would suggest that you buy a few cans of high quality canned food (I tend to use Wellness cans when I travel) and start mixing it in with her homemade food ASAP. Start with teaspoon and slowly work your way up. It wont hurt to send some cook ground turkey with her to the kennel to mix in with her canned food. My picky LOVES canned Wellness, but she only gets it when we are travelling or if she is being babysat. |
