| Microchip? Okay, I will be getting chewie in a week or so. I am worried about him. I have seen a couple posts for pets who have gotten lost and they are microchipped. I thought if you got your pet microchipped you could call the company and they would be able to tell you what area they are in, like lo-jack, is that not right? Is the only way to locate you baby once they are lost is if their microchip is scanned? Is there one company better than the others? Are there any companies that offer more than others or are they all about the same? |

| Avid offers a one time payment to register your micro chipped pet for their lifetime instead of some of the companies that charge a yearly fee. Avid will register up to five pets for a one time payemnt of $50.00, quite a deal! Yes, they have to be scanned in order for the information to be seen. No, it isn't like LO-jack or GPS.

| Yes, but Home Again makes you pay every year to renew. $14.95 per year. Avid is $19.50 for lifetime.

The microchips inserted into our pups are passive - it is only through a third party scan that their information can be accessed. Remy has a PetLink chip. The only *real* difference I've discerned from the various services is that some have a 9 digit identifier, others 15 digit. If you plan to do any international travel with your pup, the EU requires a microchip - and it must be the 15 digit version. PetLink offers the 15 digit version which is what I chose. | |

| Home Again offers services if your pet becomes lost; I don't think Avid does.

| No, this is not correct. You do not have to pay the 14.95 unless you want the added benefits they provide. They will keep your pups scanner information in their system and you are always protected that way but they also offer a host of support services and the yearly fee for those services is $14.95. People frequently make that error.... |
