| Maybe an Eye Infection? Hi Guys, I haven't posted in so long, but when I thought my Bella could be sick, I thought of you guys to get a general opinion. So, like many Yorkies, mine (who is about 1.5-years-old) gets that black, gooey-yucky stuff in the corner of her eyes. The other day, my husband thought it looked irritated in the corner of one of her eyes (not actually her eyeball, but more on the skin). I looked at it, and while it was red, I didn't think it looked that bad. Well, tonight we got home from the grocery store and noticed that it looked a bit more red and was kinda bleeding (looked more raw than anything else). I'm going to try to bring her to the doctor tomorrow to get it looked at, b/c I don't want it to get infected...or more infected if it already is. Has this happened to any of your guys' pups before? I appreciate any advice or thoughts! Thanks! |

| Two of my five get eye gunkies really bad. If you don't use either eye wipes or a moist cotton ball every day to remove the gunkies, they harden and smell funky. Once they are hard they irritate the dog's eye, much like as if we had a piece of sand in the corner of our eye. The dog will scratch at it thus making it red. Of course it's always a good idea to have the vet check for infection. Once you get a clean bill of health from the vet just keep the corners clean.

| My girl gets her eyes irritated sometimes. I usually clean them good with Saline water. I also have some eye drops for irritated eyes that has helped her once as well. |

| One of my puppies got an eye infection! My advice would be to get her to the vet asap as eye problems can quickly progress into something quite serious. I was put off by the receptionist at my vets office and I will never forgive myself for not insisting that he be seen immediately. He is ok but he came close to losing his eye..... |

| I have had the same problem and had to take him to the vet. He was on an eye ointment for a week and the vet suggested a flea comb to remove the eye gunk and to put a little vaseline in the corner of the eyes to keep the hair from irritating it. And it has worked for me. What makes it red and irritating is the gunk just sitting their in the corner because it harbors alot of bacteria.

| Thanks everyone for the advice! I really appreciate it!! I ended up having my mom take Bella to the vet on Monday, since I was working, and it turned out that she had an eye infection in one eye that was slowly moving to the other it appeared. Anyway, she's on eye drops now. I'm glad she will start feeling better...poor thing... |
