Two of my five get eye gunkies really bad. If you don't use either eye wipes or a moist cotton ball every day to remove the gunkies, they harden and smell funky. Once they are hard they irritate the dog's eye, much like as if we had a piece of sand in the corner of our eye. The dog will scratch at it thus making it red. Of course it's always a good idea to have the vet check for infection. Once you get a clean bill of health from the vet just keep the corners clean.
