| So so nervous about spaying Lorelei turns one year old in November, and we want to have her spayed. She has had one heat cycle already (around August) but she is so tiny our vet recommended we wait a few more months until she turned 1. At one year she only weighs about 2-2.5lbs. She was the runt of the litter and is really tiny. I have heard so many horror stories about tiny Yorkies not waking up from anesthesia or other complications. I am absolutely terrified at the prospect of having Lori spayed. Right now I am torn, I wouldnt mind her coming into heat as my male is already neutered and we can buy those little diapers for her, but she also has quite a few baby teeth that need to be pulled. Which I know they usually do at the same time as spaying. Does anyone have any advice for me? Or better yet know of a great vet in Indianapolis, IN that they have used before?

| I am reading your thread and it is exactly me with Lexie. Although she is 3 lbs. but I am still worried since she is tiny. I have thought about finding a vet that just does the gas mask and pull out only her baby teeth. I am also going to research, the pros and cons of spaying. My Lexie will be 1 next month, went through her 1st heat at 10.50 months. Good luck.

Thanks so much I will have to give Dr. Chris a call. You have never given me bad advice yet It makes me feel alot better knowing that he does have experience with smaller dogs, Yorkies in particular.

At least I know I am not the only over protective mommy out there lol. I just dont know what I would do if something happened to one of my babies. I would never forgive myself. I am going to give the previously recommended vet a call and will keep updating as to what we plan to do. Good luck with Lexie too!

| If it’s any consolation, I just had my 2.5 boy neutered and he’s is 100% fine! He’s a year and a half old. FYI…my breeder told me that isofluorane / sevofluorane is the only safe anesthesia for yorkies. So make sure your ask your vet what kind they use! |
