| This is gross--but Im worried! K.. this is way TMI and gross but Im kinda worried. Earlier since Trixie follows me everywhere she even goes in the bathroom with me--so I was looking at her over and so forth when she was playing in there and so forth..and I noticed her butt (way in the back around her buttwhole) was red! I started panicking and went to look at it closer and seen just the whole itself was red.. She then preceeded to tell me it was time to go potty, so I immediately take her out and within 5 seconds of finding a spot she went potty (yes she pooped) and then I noticed that its still red while she is pooping. Is this normal? I have noticed before that its red but its the first time I've seen it red like that in the house BEFORE she poops, kwim? Is it maybe because she was ready to poop and holding it in? or could this be a serious problem? Im sooo scared and not sure what to do or think!

| Yes! Before she goes, you can see this little red dot in her behind. My bigger dog is like that as well.

| Hopefully thats all it is. I was told by someone else that her anal glands could be infected? Is this the case? As I have always noticed the red when she poops but thats it. My Pom, poops and hers have never shown red.. and shes maybe a pound bigger than Trixie?? What are some signs to show if her anal glands are infected? Im so worried now! And feel like such a super bad mommy since I thought it was normal before!

| I really dont think her anal glands are infected. You can tell that its infected becuase it looks inflamed and she scoots her butt on the floor A LOT. Otherwise, I think its just nature calling!

| Well she does scoot her booty on the floor sometimes but not alot. Maybe they are infected... *sigh*. Would it stay red the whole time or only when she potties?

| I think it would stay red a lot more then before she poops. If you are worried, just take her to the vet. The vet can just clean it out. It sounds scary, but I hear that its pretty common in small breeds.

| I think that it is just normal. I have never noticed it on my yorkies or my younger schnauzer but Tina is going on 16 and she is old and sick and I noticed hers looked like that the other day. Scared me to death at first because I thought she was going to start bleeding. Then after she pooped she looked fine. I always wipe her with baby wipes too. I don't think there is anything to worry about but maybe the vet can give you some peace of mind on it. |
