| Hypoglycemic dog will NOT eat Luna was hypoglycemic from the day we got her. She was a present from some family friends after I lost my Hancock, they knew nothing about how to look out for bad breeders and what not. But she does have to take the medicine and if she doesn't get it she has seizures, the whole shabang. She will NOT touch dog food, If I let her have some of my people food however she will snarf it down so I avoid that incase she just decides to be picky. Can anyone please tell me some inexpensive good puppy food you can find at wal mart? (no pet smart anywhere round there here parts) Maybe if anyone had the same problem with their pup? Thanks!

| With all the fillers in cheap dog foods, I probably wouldn't feed it to my boys...there is the Ol' Roy brand though. I feed my boys an all natural food that I get at petsmart. What if you used just a teeny bit of bacon drippings or chicken/beef broth to kinda doctor up the dog food? Does that not change your baby's opinion of dog food?

| She may have liver shunt and that is why she wont eat. I wouldnt worry about what brand I would just try to get her to eat. You could also give boiled chicken and rice or baby food

| I could do that! Put something yummy in it and maybe she will enjoy it more. I guess I've been overthinking it so much I can't even think of the simple things =P Ol' Roy? Great I'll try that next if this doesn't work out. I hate not having pet smart around here but I'm in the country and even Wal Mart is an hour away -_-

| Uh oh I hope its not Liver Shunt. Wouldn't she be pretty lazy if she had that? Shes very active and healthy shes just not great at the eating Although! I should add, she LOVES my mothers dog's food and its adult food. She eats that pretty good, but I know adult dog food just doesn't have the nutrients she needs

| puppy won't eat If your puppy likes your mom's dog food, don't worry that it is adult. If she likes to eat it that's great and it won't hurt her. You can also buy supplements to add to it that she probably won't know are there. My small Morkie went through the not wanting to eat phase and it's frustrating. I don't know how many kinds we went through. Sometimes she would like the Cesar puppy ones you can get at Wal mart and the next time she just turned away. She discovered her lab brother's dry kibble (Pedigree small bites) and loves it, she eats from his dish and nibbles all day long so some nights at supper she isn't very hungry, I figure she will be by morning. Sometimes I think too much needless thinking goes into picking out dog food. I'll probably get chewed out all over the place here, but what did dogs eat for years and stay healthy and playful and they didn't have all the fancy stuff. Sorry, I know I will hear about that. |

Well I didn't think it would hurt her I just thought puppy food is what she REALLY needed, like adult food was a treat or something =P She does eat that pretty good though, and I just put some turkey flavored baby food in her puppy food and she was interested so I'm pretty sure shes just picky and I haven't found her brand yet =P I'm just so scared and worried, I JUST lost my other dog and I'm so paranoid I'm going to lose her so I ove rthink everything. Its nice having YT here to go to.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | When I got Cali she had several hypoglycemic episodes and I had to make sure she ate every 2-3 hours at first then every 3-4 hours even through the night, I found she would eat the Cesars beef if I would sit and hand feed her. She outgrew it and now is a little chow hound. She did have a very mild case of MVD (internal LIver shunt) but needs no treatment. I hope your little one gets better soon.

| One of my dogs, Gypsy, was like that--and so was her mom. As soon as they were both spayed they started being much less picky. Gypsy, is still a bit of a finicky eater, but now she begrudgingly eats most of her kibble. Maybe Luna will be less picky once she is spayed. Last edited by mkbartz; 10-23-2009 at 09:54 AM. Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | Oh these Yorkie babies (of all ages). I overthink EVERYTHING and my husband is from Arkansas and has more common sense in his little finger than I do in my whole body. He says, who cares how wonderful and healthy a dog food is if they won't eat it? You just have to do the best you can. I get my first Yorkie next Wednesday and I have followed YT advise as closely as possible. But if she is a picky eater......that will be me....standing over the store stirring up a pot of the homemade recipe I found on YT. Smileing from ear to ear. |

| Oh I know same here, I just think and think and think and want to fix it NOW. I just don't know what I would do if I lost her so I think any tiny thing is a big problem.

| Going thru the same thing...don't be afraid to cook for her if she'll eat it. I feed raw food..cooked..."my" tablefood..chicken meat cheese..he doesn't ike eggs..but if she does great..do't yell at me oe night I used healthy canned catfood when he "sugar crashed" on me...all he wanted to do was sleep and that's all he'd eat. When you Do get to petsmart or online order Nutrical or Nutristat..same thing same co. only cheaper..and keep a few tubes around...it's litterally a lifesaver! Good luck as she grows she should outgrow it if healthy. Feed several times a day..atleast 3/4 if you can ore if she will. Cooking might be healtheir then some of the lower grade dog foods. |
