YT 1000 Club Member | Hi Lilys Mom, My Maggie had that a few years ago and the vet put her on a bland diet. I think it was Science diet LD not sure . But she said that a bland diet is the best thing because it gives their pancreas a chance to rest. There are other members that have gone through this that will surely share their experiences and what they did. Hugs, Lori

| Hi Lily's Mom- Layla has it- as do many yorkies on here. The key is NOT a bland diet- it is a LOW FAT diet- that can't be stressed enough. What were Lily's symptoms? did the vet do a Spec or just a lipase test? I know there are some vet diets that are low in fat- however I was not ok with feeding her that food as there are MANY additives and just not good stuff. So i home cook for Layla. she was diagnosed in October of last year and in February her numbers were back down to normal- even though her vet thought it couldn't be done on a home cooked diet. I decided that I wanted to consult a nutritionist who specialized in dogs. I contacted Susan Davis Holistic Veterinarian Pet Nutritionist Holistic Pet Care . She formulated a diet for Layla based on her need and the needed intake of K/cals a day plus taking into account calcium phosphorus ratio. Other than the diet being KEY- Layla is on a lipase supplement that i get from Susan's website. I think this has REALLY helped. It gives the pancrease what it needs and thus it does not have to get all upset trying to make it Layla mainly eats baked turkey breast and bison- some fish. She eats green veggies and either sweet potato or white potato. I get her multivitamins from Animal Essentials Welcomes You! as well as her calcium supplement. Susan's fee is around 90 dollars for an hour consult. I learned a lot from her. Pancreatitis will even be gone- even though if her numbers go down- your vet might tell you she is cured- her symptoms are simple being managed. I hope this helped. Feel free to ask question- I'm in London ONtario- not that far This can be scary but i've been there and we've come out the other side- Layla is the picture of health- you'd never know she has a pancrease issue. |

| Bailey had a one time pancreatic attack a couple months ago. She is 2 1/2 years old. Yes, low fat is the answer. Fortunately, Bailey already had a good low fat homemade raw diet and we returned to it with no problems (of course, we worked our way back to it via chicken 'n rice and smaller portions more often) and we cut-out the food sharing (cookies, ice cream, snacks, etc.) If your lil one has been diagnosed with chronic pancreatis - you may need review your base diet for something lower in fat. Good luck.

| Baron was diagnosed in July with Pancreatitis. He had been on Wellness Super 5 mix with de-boned chicken for 3 months. At first the Vet had me giving him boiled chicken with white rice/pasta. In September he was doing better and the vet had me switch him back to Royal Canin #27 which he had been on for 1 year. His stools are getting firmer and he no longer has gas and belly pain. The vet said for treats to give him chicken with rice jerky and no preservatives. He's put weight back on and is so much more compfortable. Good-Luck with your little one!!

| Pancreatitis Ozzy ate the cat's food & had an acute attack of severe pancreatitis. We actually thought he was dead after finding him lying lifeless & barely breathing. After 24 hours of IV fluids he was fine. According to the vet, a dog's pancreas cannot process the amount of amino acids in dry cat food. I had to place the cat food bowl upon a table the keep Oz out!! |

| I haven't dealt with this with Joey or Tank, but my husband had pancreatitis a couple months back. It's EXTREMELY painful, and they actually didn't let him have anything whatsoever for 24 hours while they pumped fluids through him as an inpatient at the hospital. Then, they put him on clear liquids for a day, then bumped him up to a bland diet. He hasn't had any issues since (knock on wood!), but I assume it's gonna be a similar thing with dogs. Good luck!

| Pancreatitis My 4 year old female was diagnosed with Pancreatitis last Monday. I was told she must stay on a low fat diet. She was always a fussy eater, it is extremely difficult trying to get her to eat. We are giving her boiled chicken, pastena and skim ricotta. We bought low fat food but she does not like it. She has always had a problem with her stomach. |

| One of mine was just dx'd with this today, and is in the hospital I was feeding both Adonis and Venus, Canadie. Looks like I'll have to change foods too. Trying to get some ideas of what to feed him now. My girl eats the same food too. And you can't possibly feed them separate. So looks like what I feed one, I'll have to feed both. I got some good ideas, just reading everyone's posts. I know this isn't Adonis's first attack with it. When he'd throw up before, he'd be fine in no time flat. Not this time, so to the Vet we went. |
