| bortadella vaccine booster question my dog is schedule to have a bortadella vaccine booster next week (internasally). however, i wanted to know is it really necessary and is there dangerous side effects to it. she has been sick last month and was admitted to the hospital for gastritis; and i dont want to take a chance with the vaccine and don't want to compromise her immune system. she doesn't go out between other dogs and i only take her to the groomer for 10 minutes to cut her nails. any recommendations? thanks

| I stopped a couple of years ago giving it to Buddy. If your dog is not being boarded, going to day care or being groomed on the outside I would not recommened it. It's not necessary. |

| I don't give it to either Sophie or Ivan. I don't board them at all and even when they go to the groomers I have it arranged that they are the last appt. of the day and are never in a kennel. My dogs stay in my arms until I hand one over to the groomer. The groomer calls me 10 min. before she's done so I get there just as she finishes! It pays to tip your groomer well. It's similar to like our flu shot. Sometimes they can get sick from it. I figure one less chance of a reaction, especially if they don't need it. PS: This is my PERSONAL choice. My Vet recommends it. I decline.

| I would not recommend this vaccine....Bordetella is generally equivalent to a cold and IF a pet were to contract this it resolves itself in about 10 days....... Dr Dodds does not recommend it as a needed vaccine..... Vaccination Schedule Recommendations For Dogs

my poor dog has had all the vaccines last year and boosters this year; and according to the above some weren't needed. anyway, from now on i don't think i will vaccinate her again, except for the 3 year rabies vaccine. do you agree, that she won't be needing any other vaccines anymore for the rest of her life, except for the rabies vaccine? thanks

Chachi is correct why give wormer when most likely it's not needed....If your concerned you can take in a stool sample and they can check for worms...... Your probably going to find that most vets want to give unnecessary vaccines and wormers....It's best for the sake of your dogs health to get as much info as possible so you can make decisions that are correct for you....All you have to do is google "overvaccination" and google "Dr Jean Dodds"...."Catherine O Driscoll"...."Dr. Bob Rogers" etc.etc. ......Here are a couple to get you going.... A high titer is strongly correlated with either recent infection or good immunity, but the opposite isn't true. You can use a titer test about two weeks after vaccination to determine if the vaccination was effective in stimulating an immune response (in other words, if the animal was successfully immunized from the vaccine), but testing that same animal's titer years down the road doesn't really tell you anything new.

oh thank you so much for this; i wish i knew about this site before; i just trusted the vet and kept going for more vaccines; i cant believe they gave 2 other vaccines with the rabies shot; that' s nuts i dont know how much damage i have done to my dog; probably all her problems now are from the overvaccination. does the damage last forever? i feel horrible.
