Confusing Response
Solid Gold Pet Foods
Solid Gold responded quickly to my initial email stating fish meal is preserved with tocopherols. However, with further investigation, Solid Gold dry foods are manufactured by Diamond Pet Foods (confirmed by Solid Gold), and a representative from Diamond told me all foods manufactured by Diamond that contain fish meal, ocean fish meal, or salmon meal use an ethoxyquin preservative in the fish meal. This seems to mean that Solid Gold pet foods, despite their initial response to the ethoxyquin question, actually contains fish meal ingredients that are preserved with ethoxyquin. Three follow up emails to Solid Gold have gone unanswered; no response to the conflicting information.

I talked to a pet store where I live and she said that solid gold just rents out the space from diamond and that that they do not make their food, I hope that is the case

I don't know what to make of Solid Gold.....I'm very concerned because I feed this to my cats and it does contain fish meal....Since it's made by Diamond I'm very suspicious of this product.....I'm going to try and get a hold of them myself and see what kind of answer I get....

Excellent information. The last years of Crystal's life, I could not find Solid Gold and switched first to Royal Canin kibble and then Wellness in the can.

My girls have been eating Merricks Grammys pot pie for a couple of years now. I just read the ingredients and it does not contain ethoxyquin but it does contain tocopherols. My understanding is this is a natural preservative..Is this correct. I am getting so confused about what to feed them. I have 1 very picky eater...seems when I find something she will eat it is either on the recall list or not good for her.

Yes tocopherols is safe.....

.....I'm getting to the point of not buying any pet food...I'm cooking for them most of the time anyway, it's just that I haven't really researched home cooking enough to make sure I'm providing th proper nutrients....

I want to thank you SO MUCH for posting this information. I formerly fed my JRT Canidae - and when Zoe first came home, she would steal a few pieces of his food. I was absolutely SHOCKED when I found out that Canidae had ethoxyquin in their food and immediately decided to switch him. Zoe is on NV Raw medallions and LOVES them. I still can't get Kramer, my JRT to eat them - but I switched him to NV Instinct which he does like.

So thank you, thank you, thank you. We try to do all the right things for our furbabies and it's really upsetting to see some companies, which I TRUSTED, sneaking in such toxic substances.

What do you think of this site?? I don't see Solid Gold anywhere on kibble or can food six star rating but Wellness is on both.

You never know the reasons someone puts a site on the internet but when you look at ingredients they can't lie about that.

I found that site recently also and really like it! The star rating, I believe, is based on awarding "points" for certain ingredients in the food. Then the points fall within the category (ex. 190-200 points = 6 stars, etc.). I think it's a GREAT site to compare food ingredients as well as to read their analysis as to how the certain order of ingredients affects the overall rating of the food.

Sorry, this is a bit off topic since it doesn't deal with fish meal and ethoxyquin only but it does show that 'solid gold' is not there.

I think it is too but I haven't done research for awhile.
