IMPORTANT: Updated list of ethoxyquin containing foods..... I already started a thread listing the pet foods that contain ethoxyquin in their fish meal as a preservative. Ethoxyquin is a very potent toxin.... "Of types of dog food, the “premium” brands of dry dog foods are most often incriminated. However, no correlation of adverse effects with age, gender or breed of dog is apparent. The reported signs include liver, kidney, thyroid and reproductive dysfunction, teratogenic and carcinogenic effects, allergic reactions and a host of skin and hair abnormalities. There have been anecdotal reports that some of these conditions have resolved after replacement of the ETQ-containing diet with a diet thought to be free of ETQ." The fist list is posted in this link...NOTE: Not all the foods on the list contain ethoxyquin. The ones that do "are" is highlighted to indicate that the company uses it. The others are on the list to let you know they responded back to the author and claim they use an alternative preservative, as in Vit. E. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...thoxyquin.html Now the list has expanded to include these names: Royal Canin Pet Foods “Fish meal preserved naturally.” Loyall Pet Foods “Fish meal ingredients are preserved with ethoxyquin.” Doctors Foster & Smith Pet Foods “Ethoxyquin may or may not be in the fish meal that is contained in our foods.” Eagle Pack Pet Foods “Fish meal ingredients preserved with natural tocopherols.” Wellness Pet Foods “Fish meal ingredients preserved with natural tocopherols.” Nutro Pet Foods “Fish meal ingredients are preserved with Vitamin E.” Iams Pet Foods “Fish meal ingredients are preserved with Vitamin E.” No Response (four business days passed) Azmira Pet Foods Canine Caviar Eukanuba Pet Foods Evangers Pet Foods Kumpi Pet Foods Natural Life Pet Foods Orijen Pet Foods (received message they will follow up) Petcurean Pet Foods Purina Pet Foods (received message they will follow up) Science Diet Pet Foods (received message they will follow up) Confusing Response Solid Gold Pet Foods Solid Gold responded quickly to my initial email stating fish meal is preserved with tocopherols. However, with further investigation, Solid Gold dry foods are manufactured by Diamond Pet Foods (confirmed by Solid Gold), and a representative from Diamond told me all foods manufactured by Diamond that contain fish meal, ocean fish meal, or salmon meal use an ethoxyquin preservative in the fish meal. This seems to mean that Solid Gold pet foods, despite their initial response to the ethoxyquin question, actually contains fish meal ingredients that are preserved with ethoxyquin. Three follow up emails to Solid Gold have gone unanswered; no response to the conflicting information. These are the two links with the complete articles to read..... Part one: Risk Ingredients Not Listed on Pet Food Labels and part two: More Pet Food Replies to Ethoxyquin in Fish Meal Question There are still companies she has not heard back from, so the list may still grow. Reminder: This is for foods that contain "fish meal". |

Has it been verified that California Natural is ok? Also is this just kibble and not canned food or both? Thanks |
I always assumed it was dry....I don't know about canned.....Personally I use mostly chicken, lamb, venison, and duck .....I'll just avoid all brands containing fish meal to be safe..... This is a portion of the article at Truth about Pet Food...... "Thank goodness, there are many pet food manufacturers that have chosen to avoid ethoxyquin regardless of the cost. I have this past week (9/3/09) emailed requests to dozens of pet food manufacturers (every manufacturer reviewed in Petsumer Report) asking if their fish meal ingredients (fish meal, ocean fish meal, salmon meal, and so on) are preserved with ethoxyquin. If they were not, I asked to know the specific method of fish meal preservation." As of the writing of this article (9/5/09), the following are the companies that have responded. Artemis Pet Foods Per Diamond Pet Food (manufacturer) “all fish meal, ocean fish meal, and salmon meal ingredients are preserved with ethoxyquin.” Breeders-Choice – AvoDerm Natural Pet Food “Breeder's Choice does not use ethoxyquin in any of it's foods. However, because it is found in the food chain, trace amounts cannot easily be eliminated.” Blue Buffalo Pet Foods “Fish meal is preserved naturally with Naturox.” By Nature Pet Foods “Fish meal is preserved with natural tocopherols.” California Natural, Innova, Evo Pet Foods “Fish meal is preserved with Vitamin E and mixed tocopherols.” |

When I called the company, I was told that it is not always possible to remove the hair from the meat, , the thing is, it did NOT look like lamb hair... I was told that in the wild, dogs eat their prey with hair and all  . I sent them letters, pictures, nobody cared enough to get back to me  Thats it for me and CN. |
