| YES, another neutering question ... Since neutering seems to be the hot topic ... Did your babies stay overnight or come home the same day? How long was it before they were back to normal? My vet wants to keep Harley overnight to "keep him inactive" which would be okay I guess, but no one is there with them overnight. It makes me feel uncomfortable that he will be alone in a strange place. (Will he be so heavily medicated that he'll sleep most of the time?) On the other hand, if I bring him home the same day of the surgery, I'm afraid between our other dog and my two boys I won't be able to keep him calm and quiet. What's everyones opinion on this??

| Chachi was neutered and had teeth pulled and he came home that night. He was back to normal as soon as he got home. You couldnt really tell with him that he had anything done. We really had to restrain him from jumping and doing things as normal. If nobody is going to be there I would just ask the vet if could take him home. My vet also said that they have more problems with the males then the females postsurgery problems.

| Mojo came home in just a few hours. He slept the whole day...and i had to sleep too cuz he follows me everywhere so i suggest in getting him neutered in a day you can be with him all the time....Next day he was back to normal already

| Tucker was neutered and had a few teeth pulled all in one surgery also, and we brought him home the day of the operation. Since his liver shunt, it took a loooooong time for the anesthesia to leave his system, when he walked he looked a bit drunk... It was kinda funny, but once his medication wore off he was perfectly fine

| we just got logan neutered friday. We dropped him off at 8 and picked him up at 4. We brought him home and he spent a couple hours lounging around the house (he wouldn't even chase the cat even though she desperately tried to get him too). The we put him in his playpen while we went out. So he slept in his playpen from 7-midnight and then we put him to bed and slept til 9 the next morning (which is rare). He's still not quite as active as normal, i think it hurts when he runs or jumps, but he's getting there.

| Thanks for all the replies. I just don't like the idea of him staying overnight since there won't be anybody in the office with him and didn't understand the need. When my schnauzer got spayed she came home the same afternoon (different vet). She was really groggy and for about 3 days she milked being "sick" for all she could get out of it! She was so pitiful Harley on the other hand is so ACTIVE I just don't see him laying around wanting to be catered to. Hmm ... darn ... guess I'll have to take next Friday off and spend the day napping with Harley then !! (I'll tell my boss the YT'ers told me to)

| When Ted was neutered we dropped him off at 7:30 a.m. and picked him up at around 4ish. If they had wanted him to stay over night I would have found a different vet as I see it as unnecessary. There is nothing that they can do for him that you can't do for him at home and I believe they are more comfortable at home versus being alone in a vet clinic. Teddy was a little slow going for the first few days home but improved steadily.

| I think if it is a Vet office where nobody is there at night, then it is all just a ploy to charge more. I would pick him up at the end of the vet day and take him home. You can always crate him in a different room for keeping calm and quiet if needed. remember YOU are in charge and it is not the Vets choice... it is yours

| Ruby got Spaied 4 days ago and got her 4 baby canine teeth pulled (poor girl). My vet told me that they send all their Spay/Neuter animals home the same day because they heal faster in their own enviroment. When Ruby came home she was REALLY out of it, i mean couldn't even walk. It kinda scared me but my vet said it was normal for her size. She also got the Lazer sergury done (which takes less time to heal). It's 4 days later now and she seems back to herself but i still don't let her do very much. |

| I made a decision today to go back to my previous vet. It's not as convenient location wise, but after giving it alot of thought, I just feel more comfortable and think he knows more about what he's doing. He said drop him off around 8:00 and he should be ready to go home by 3:00 or so. Thanks for all your responses. I knew in the back of my mind that staying overnight wasn't necessary, just wanted to hear it from all you experts.

| Cooper was neutered today and had his four canines removed. I dropped him off at 8:30 AM and picked him up at 2:30 PM. The first order of business for him was eating! He ate until he was full and has had no vomitting from it so - he's okay. (I asked before allowing him to have his normal food.) Since then, he's been curled up in his blanket on the floor. He will be on anti-inflammatory pills for 4 days. I expect him (based on my experience with Carter) to be back to normal by the time we go to bed tonight. Carter knows something is wrong and is leaving Cooper alone -- very unusual! Just my experiences. Lisa
