| Is Panosteitis or "pano" common in Yorkies? Is Panosteitis or "pano" common in Yorkies? Has anyone had experience with this?

| No. It's most common in larger breed dogs ; Shephard , Retrievers, Rots. Usually occuring in the 6-18 month range and most predominantly affecting males; it is not life threatening. Many researchers, at this point, have come to various theories as to its exact etiology. Nutition, Genetics, and Viral altercations due to the changing from dead, to live viral cells in the Distemper vacccine are all being looked into. Have always had yorkies, so my exposure to this is limited to research and clinical application. Hope this helps. |

| Thanks, I was curious, Eva was limping a bit though I think it was probably due to the many bumps and bangs she has been getting lately. Anyway I read somewhere the connection with Pano and high protein food. Eva is on Orijen and is pretty high in protein. But if it is not common in smaller breeds then I guess it isn't really a concern. I do realize it is self limiting but wasn't sure if common in Yorkie. Thanks for your help.

| Pano is more about consuming more calories than the body needs rather than the amount of protein. It's also due to rapid growth causing pain at the growth platelets. As the dog finishes their growth, the platelets are no longer in conflict, thus usually no more pain. Something not really an issue in small breeds as fu fu said. Hope your little one feels better! |
