| Hurt puppy--pulled muscle? I apologize for this being my first post here, but I usually just lurk and have seen that you all give excellent advice. I have a 4 month old pup who is 3 pounds. Yesterday, She was out playing with some other pups, and I took my eyes off of her for about a second, and next thing I knew she was screaming and crying. I checked her entire body and there were was no blood or bite marks or anything and i'm not really sure what had happened, but I assumed she got stepped on or kicked? Anyways, after about 10 minutes she settled down, but was still crying every so often. I very nearly took her to the ER vet, but since her eyes looked clear, and she was eating and drinking, I didn't take her and decided to wait and see how she was today. She def seems much better, and is walking around without a limp, eating, drinking, and even running around playing a little bit. (Tough to keep a 4 month old quiet!) But every once in a while when I run my hands across her body to find out what's hurting her, and sometimes when I touch one of her legs, she'll cry out. But then if I touch the same spot, she will be fine. Sometimes another part of her body will hurt. Sometimes if she's just laying on her side sleeping she'll cry out. I'm assuming nothing is wrong with her legs, as she jumped off of something earlier and didn't even flinch. The pain just seems to come at completely random times? It doesn't SEEM to be an emergency and if she isn't significantly better tommorow, I'll take her to the vet. But do any of you have any possible idea of what could cause such seemingly random pain? I'm thinking pulled muscle--Is that way off base? |

| Hi and welcome to YT! It could be a bruised muscle. You could try a ice pack wrapped in a towel followed by a hot pad on low, wrapped in a towel. If you don't have one, warm water in a baggie will work. Switch them on and off, after the other has calmed down. (cold, calm, warm, calm) Just the same as humans. Also massage the whole leg with a light finger, This way your looking for any bump that you might have missed and loosening the muscle, if that is what it is. If that doesn't work, off to the vet. Hope this helps. Good luck! Let us know she is doing! |

| You need to take her to the vet. She could have a spinal cord injury. I would never, ever mess around with a 3lb pup who appeared to be in pain.

| Thanks for the welcome and the advice! She is my first little pup of this size, so i'm learning as I go along (This site's been great for that). I've been through her body from head to toe looking for any bumps, cuts, bite marks, sore spots etc and haven't found a single thing. That's why I've been so worried-because I don't really have any idea what's going on, but I can tell that she's feeling a million times better than yesterday. I've just now noticed that the random cries happen the most when she's been lying down for a while. She seems much better when she's up and doing puppy things, but when she lies down for a nap, she'll yelp, squeak, and cry every now and then. |

| I have no idea what the problem is, but if my Yorkie was crying and yelping out of nowhere when she was trying to nap, she would be at the vets office immediately.
