Whoa...this discussion is making me dizzy.............

I groom Emilio myself, but do take him to the groomer to have this done. She only charges me $5 and it takes her about 2 minutes. Let's just say it is the best $5 I ever spent!! He gets it done every 1-2 months. He is a little guy so he needs the help.

Bear the 80lb rescue never needs it done... Baxter the maltipoo starts scooting every 6-8wks, right about grooming time, and I always have the groomer do it. So far the girls haven't had any issues. I've heard it pretty much depends on the quality of their poop as to whether or not they express themselves. Bear and Baxter eat the exact same food, so go figure. The modern dog diet is supposedly what has caused the anal glands to require so much of 'our' attention. Baxter has always jumped and ran right after he poops, I'd never associated it with pain though, I just thought it was a reaction like some dogs that scrape their feet after they pee. hmmm, I'll have to watch and see. I mean he does it every single time, even right after the groomers.
