OK, i've never heard of this. can someone explain what this is, what causes it, all that good stuff? is this something that arises and needs to be taken care of often?

It is good to have them done. Some dogs need it more than others. If you are going to get your baby groomed it is best to have them do it when you take the furbaby in for grooming..Peanut gets his once a month

Mine are going on 5 and have never had their anal glands expressed or have it needed. I think if you do it when its not needed it causes it to need to be done on a regular basis

HAHA Oh No! Did I scare you?? Hehe trust me its better to take your babies in to have it done!! Plus sometimes it squirts on you!! and this stuff that is inside isn't like poop! Its the worse smell in the entire world! If you have ever smelt "parvo" thats what it smells like!!! EEK I can still smell it in my head lol!! Being a vet tech I would get that stuff on me at least a couple times a week esp if the dogs were psycho's!!

Great! Ask them when they are done how full they were...They can usually give you about when you will need to come in next..I would try about once a month and if you see more scooting then change it to twice a month.

I would do this when giving a bath..it is really messy and stinky..so when I do mine I always do it when I am bathing them..I wouldn't recommend going in their butt nd doing it that way..

The groomer i went to and asked about the services told me that the dog will usually expel them on their own and the first time they have to be done manually by a person, the dog will have to have them done that way forever, so it's better if you never have to do it and if the dog can expel on it's own, otherwise it's a lifetime of groomers or vets doing it for you, or doing it yourself (YUCKY) not for me!!
