| Just an FYI, the one year and three year rabies vaccine are identical. From the Wall Street Journal: One company, Pfizer Inc., decided to test its one-year rabies vaccine on live animals and discovered it lasted for at least three years. It sells the identical formula simply packaged under different labels - Defensor 1 and Defensor 3 - to satisfy different state vaccination requirements. Some Vets Rethink the Need for Annual Pet Vaccinations |

| Now I'm worried! Maddie needs her first rabies vac the end of the month. Her 8 week vac made her VERY tired and her 13 week vacs had no effect on her. Should I ask my vet to only give her a partial dose of the rabies? I'm glad everything has worked out for Prince! |

| He can call Pfizer himself if he doesn't believe it. It's no secret. |

| We have discussed this here in the past: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ar-rabies.html I'm surprised your vet isn't aware of it. It's pretty common knowledge. But yes, have him call Pfizer to verify it if he isn't aware of it. |

I am surprised as well. I am sure I did not misunderstand him. I do remember hearing something about the two being the same, but that was a long time ago, and I though maybe the formula had changed. I will call Pfizer on Monday, but I'm glad Prince will not have to get it, at all!!

Georgia used to require annual rabies vaccinations so maybe that is why your vet is confused? Hopefully with the Rabies Challenge Fund, more states will move to a one vaccine and a booster for life protocol. They wouldn't change the formula then, either, as titers have shown immunity to last for 7 years plus. | |

| You have to check your counties too because some counties in Indiana require a yearly one for licensing

| The rabies should have been given at another date.Rabies is only every 3 years now and I would not give him it ever due to his reaction.Perhaps you could have titres done. |
