1/2 rabies vac... Does anyone have their vet give only half of the rabies vac? It's that time again, and I don't want Prince to go thru what he went thru before. |
Just ask! I think it's pretty stupid that the dose is the same size for a 200 lbs dog as it is our little ones:rolleyes: Make sure you remind the vet what happened last time. They may want to give him a preventative med to help with any reactions (that's what happened, I'm assuming?) If your vet won't listen, find a new vet;) Good luck:D!! |
What happened last time? |
unfortunately its the law to give the whole thing. If he had a bad reaction last time you can ask that he gets benadryl 15 minutes before hand. If it was a really bad reaction you can have your vet write a letter saying he cannot get this vaccine for health reason. |
Yes, that previous post is correct...the only way you can get away w/not having one is to have your vet say that it would be endangering the life of the dog, and then you don't have to have one...or you can just not have one, and who would know? You just have to be sure that your dog never bites anyone... |

You know, I think I may skip the rabies vac this year. Prince is potty pad trained and is not around any dogs. He is inside or on the deck with me or his daddy. When he goes for a walk, he is never in contact with other animals. |

What vaccines did he have the day this happened? |
Florida law permits exemptions to the rabies vaccine with a vet's letter, but not all counties permit it. What county do you live in? Since Prince is pad trained and an indoor dog, I would skip it. Lady had a very serious reaction to her last rabies shot, too. She was on steroids for a week and her blood sugar was out of control. (She's a diabetic). Since she is almost 14 and has such a weak immune system from the diabetes, I have stopped vaccinating her with my vets's approval and just modified her lifestyle. She primarily uses pads and neighborhood jaunts are in the stroller now. |

I live in California and I had two dogs that were diagnosised with cancer. I was told by three different vets that the cancer was propbably caused by over vaccinations. They were both older and in their teens but my vet refused to give any more vaccinations and wrote a letter on my behalf stating due to health issues these two dogs would be forgoing any further vaccinations. They survived another two and a half years. Dr. Dodds continues her research on the harm vaccinations cause year after year as they will eventually weaken the immune system. She has some proof that like humans after their inital seris of puppy shots they are immuned for several years and possibly their entire lives. I would ask your vet for a letter and send it in with your renewal. Ifyour vet won't do it I would not re vaccinate. I also had a cat that had a similar reaction. The vet said never to vaccinate this cat again because the next time could kill him. He is strictly indoors so I feel he is safe. |

Thank you! You are so right. Prince is licensed, and in GA the fine can be as much as 500, I was told. |
Whoops! I have no idea why I thought you were in Florida! I checked and Georgia law does not allow a medical exemption from rabies. Of course, I agree with Sweet Apple. No way would I take a chance with a rabies vaccine again after the reaction he had the first time. |

Did you let your dogs get the others, with the exception of the rabies vac, or did they not receive any at all? Like your cat, Prince is inside almost all of the time. The only vacs that causes me a lot of concern are the rabies...and the nasal drops. I plan to speak with Prince's vet on Monday and will ask him about writing the letter for me. AIf he refuses, I'll have to find one who will. Thank you so much for your feedback. |
