| 2 shots in one day? Ranger goes to the vet in two weeks for possibly his last visit for a long time. I say possibly because that is only if he gets both his 4th distemper and his rabies shot. The vet does not know yet if he wants to give Ranger both shots in the same day. Has anyone's pup been administered 2 shots in the same day? Is this bad for them? I just want to be informed if the vet leaves the decision up to me.

| Yes, Ellie has gotten DHLPP-C and rabies in the same day. Never again... She had a severe reaction and because so many were given at once, it is hard to say which one caused it to be able to avoid it next time. However, in our case it was believed to be lepto. I personally would not do it again. It is also a lot on them all at once. There is no reason not to separate them...

| I would definitely recommend doing these shots at separate times. Vaccines are a lot on these poor little babies and to do so many at one time is a lot on their bodies. I would wait a week in between shots. I know it means one more trip to the vet, but in the end it is a lot safer and easier on your baby.

| Thanks. He already got a distemper and chipped the same day and that was a lot even.

How much does he weigh? if he is really tiny they may just do the one and have you come back in a day or two to get the other shot. We used to do that all the time with the smaller breeds that would come in. Vaccine reactions usually occur within 30 min after getting the vaccine. sometimes if they have a reaction, they will pre treat before giving shots again, usually with benedryll and a steriod. good luck

| I'm so glad your questioning the safety of doing vaccines for your little one.....It never ceases to amaze me how clueless vets are in this important area of care for pets..... To answer your question it is NEVER a good idea to get more than one vaccine in a visit. It overwhelms the pets system and greatly increases the risks for undesirable adverse reactions, especially in smaller dogs. The shots should ALWAYS be spaced 3 to 4 weeks apart, 4 weeks is better. If you give a shot as close as two weeks apart the first shot will block the second one from "taking". From all my reading a pet should NEVER be given a combo vaccine, it greatly increases long term health problems and exposes your pet to vaccines that are not needed or beneficial to the pet.....and booster are unnecessary and put your pet at risk for long term health problems....... This is from this site on vaccines: Vaccinating Dogs: What Your Vet Hasn't Told You Melissa Kennedy, DVM, PhD, DACVIM wrote in DVM360 on-line magazine: "The likelihood of adverse reactions in dogs has been found to correlate with the size of the dog and the number of inoculations given, with higher risk associated with small size and multiple inoculations." This means: no combo shots for small dogs -- or any other dogs for that matter. And NEVER GIVE ANY OTHER SHOT WITH A RABIES SHOT. Wait at least three or four weeks between the rabies shot and other shots.

| Before I knew better, I let the vet give Asha all her shots at the same time, which included rabies, at 4 mo old. Within hours, she was withdrawn, and screamed when you touched her. Luckily Benadryl and a baby aspirin brought her back to her old self within a day. Needless to say, we did not return to that vet. I felt if he did not know any better than do that, we needed someone who knew more. Luckily, we now have a wonderful holistic vet, who agrees with giving only one shot at a time, and respects drawing titers instead of insisting on unnecessary vaccines.
