| Advice on getting yorkie to gain weight? I just adopted a 2 y/o boy yesterday and he is very very skinny. He is taller and longer than my Bella who weighs 6 lbs and he weighs 3.2 lbs. The previous owner told me he has just always been really skinny and he was free-fed before. He ate boiled chicken breast like there was no tomorrow when we first got off the plane yesterday. Then he's had dog food last night and this morning. He eats hungrily at his dog food for a little bit but does not finish it all (just 1/4 cup this morning- mixed wellness small bites and Innova Evo with a bit of alascan salmon oil and a tiny sprinkle of shredded cheddar cheese). He had a vet check this past Monday with the previous owner and they faxed me the records- he is heartworm negative, is now up to date on shots, they said he is healthy, and he is pottying normally #1 and #2. I am taking him to my vet to get checked out on this coming Monday and will get a full blood panel. I know I haven't even given this time to see if he will put on weight yet, but it makes me so sad to see him so skinny and feel all his bones. I don't want to overwhelm him with food and make him sick, but I just can't wait to have him at a healthier weight. Is it possible that a dog could be this skinny and be healthy? He acts playful and sweet as can be - but he's so boney and skinny!!! Does anyone have advice on how to best to go from here? Should I be feeding him anything exra- I don't want to feed him too much human food so that he become picky about the dog food. Thanks in advance for any advice |

| Natural Balance Rolls! I gave them to my girls through out entire pregnancy and as they were nursing and they thickened up a bit. Besides the liver and cottage cheese they've been getting I think the Rolls played a big part b/c they got the large roll every week.

| If you do use the food rolls, make sure to leave plenty of water down...they do drink more water when eating the rolls. I've use them from time to time, I usually feed Natures Variety. My Maya is just a skinny thing...people ask me if she is anorexic...as she is all bones...but I feed her 3 times a day as much as she will eat, and leave kibble out all the time for her. Good Luck!!! |

| My two love those natural balance rolls. Whoever said they will drink more water after eating them was right. They are very dry

| Be aware of what is in the Natural Balance rolls. See this link from their site for info and ingredients... Dick Van Patten's Natural Balance® Dog Food Rolls Wheat, Sugar, and Salt are in the top few ingredients. NO wonder the dogs are drinking lots of water after they eat it. Be aware of what's in the food you feed!!! I think a better choice would be satin balls for gaining weight. Much more nutritious. Here's the recipe .... 5 pounds ground beef, fatty (not lean) 5 cups Total whole grain cereal 5 cups oats (slow cooking type) 2½ cups raw wheat germ ¾ cup oil ¾ cup molasses 6 egg yolks 5 packets gelatin Mix up, form balls, freeze, feed as treats or food supplement. Mix all ingredients together thoroughly like you would a meatloaf. Roll into balls no larger than 1 inch diameter. Divide into at least 6 separate containers or bags. Freeze. Thaw as needed for feeding. |

| They do drink more water. And I don't use this as a complete way of feeding, just on those picky, anorexic dogs....Once I get them eating, I slowly add in the diet I chose for them to eat.

| In that recipe, do you cook the beef or use it raw? |

| The recipe calls for the burger to be raw. If you cook it, much or all of the fat is going to cook out of it. You can also half the recipe so it doesn't make so much! |

| Recipe is great for attempting to put weight on. I have only one worry with raw, the possibility of ecoli.
