| Puppy won't eat -- related to first heat? Hi guys; my 9 month old puppy hasn't eaten for a couple of days so I've got her on Nutrical, which she now hates and runs away when I open the tube. Desperate, I cut up a slice of my rib eye steak this morning and fed her about an ounce of it or so just so she had some solid food, and she chowed it down. She's on Nutro wet food, but she's been refusing it for the last two days. She's got plenty of energy and gives the cats hell, and she just had her first heat, so is this a heat-related thing? Do puppies stop eating around their heat time? I hate giving her people food but had to get her to eat something. |

YorkieTalk Newbie! | our yorkie is 9 months old and will not eat either this is normal as we have other dogs in our house. if this is the same with you consider feeding our yorkie in a crate. our yorkie also will not eat because it is only her third day with us so she is nervous. again might be the case with yours. i suggest put a little water in her food and then put it in the micorwave for 5 to 10 seconds this will moist the food so it will be easier for her to swallow also it might not be the best to get her started on people food Last edited by yorkie33345; 07-09-2009 at 02:51 AM. |

| First, please Google "Consumer Affairs Nutro" and read the reviews on this food. It has been blamed on sickness and death in many dogs. You can play the tough love game and she will eat when she is hungry but this does not work for all dogs because some will only eat enough so they do not starve to death...not enough to be healthy. Have you tried kibble? People food is fine but probably not steak. The meat portion needs to be lean. If you do it long-term, a nutritionist should be consulted to balance the recipe. How are her teeth? Did she get all her adult and lose all her baby teeth yet?

| Maddie lost weight durring her first heat. But she was eating. I agree that maybe you could use this opportunity to switch off of Nutro. Please don't give her your steak, as it has way too much fat in it for her. She probably just doesn't feel all that well and will regain her appetite with time. If you give her people food she may not want to go back to dog food because our food has so much more flavor

| Maybe she doesn't like her food. please, go to www.dogfoodanalysis.com and do your research regarding the food. I feed Sasha ARTEMIS dry kibble and Merrick canned food (puppy plate and turkducken). artemis is a 6 star dog food and merrick 5 stars. I also hear INNOVA is great but I haven't try it yet. it's not even that much extra expensive from regular commercial food but big different ingredients. plus you will be doing something that will benefit your dog a lot. give her baby carrots and some fruits too like seedless watermelon they love it!
