| Diamond food plant? I did a search of a few foods on the forums here and am wondering what went down with the Diamond food plants? I keep reading about people not feeding ANY food that were/are manufactured in that plant. Never heard about it, what happened? Also, which foods are manufactured there? I was looking into Artemis a bit but saw it may have been manufactured there, any comments on this?

| In 2005 the Diamond Pet Food company in South Carolina, distributed contaminated dog and cat food to over 23 US states. Their product was contaminated by the secondary metabolite of the Aspergillus fungi; Aflatoxin. This fungi is common on corn and grains grown in high humidity and heat. While humans have a relatively high tolerance to the effects, canines and cats do not. Thousands of animals were effected; dozens died and thousands were sent to the vet to counteract the damaging effects it has on the liver. While this was not an intentional poisoning, it was poisoning none the less. Currently, Diamond Pet Food Corp. is engaged in repayments of over 3 mil to families whose animals were effected. Hope this helps..... |

| Some of us don't really like Diamond because of the aflatoxin thing. For me, it wasn't so much that some of their food was recalled with health consequences (although that is very upsetting). It was the reports that one or more people there knew that there was a problem with the corn and/or didn't inspect it that doesn't make me happy. I saw this on at least one site but can't prove it...

| Thanks for the info - I was just curious. Has there been any known problems with the food Artemis? Are they manufactured at Diamond? I just requested a bunch of samples from them to try for Jackson so I was just wondering. From what I can see, the ingredients look really good and I like that the Small Breed formula's first five ingredients are meat, but the protein is still not extremely high. That's exactly what I've been looking for for him because he seems to like food better with a lot of meat but I didn't want TOO much protein.

Artemis - Holistic Approach to Pet Food But http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...4-artemis.html states I used to feed Artemis Fresh Mix and my two boys really liked it. It's a really good food. The reason why I stopped feeding it was because I found out it was manufactured by Diamond Pet Foods. After all the problems with pet food recalls, I won't feed any food that is manufactured at their plant. I'm now feeding Timberwolf Organics and Innova Small bites.

| The problem that I have with the Diamond Dog Food Company is that they were AWARE of the problem long before they recalled the food. We were feeding the Lamb and Rice forumula to our Boxer (which was not affected), but our local feed dealer called us and warned us abou the recall. Robert, our Feed Dealer, told us that Daimond had them the schedule to pick up the contaminated food and would replace it with "good" food, but would not give them a refund. So our poor little family owned feed dealer was stuck with a huge supply of Daimond Dog Food that no one would buy. So for those two reasons, the fact that they didn't act quickly and decisively to remove the contaminated food and warn the public AND because of the way they treated our dealer -- I will not buy their products or any product that I know is produced at one of their plants. |

I found out by them sending me a response back to an email that I had sent them requesting a sample of taste of the wild, it was in the signature line. You can always call the food company that your pets are on and they should tell you what plant thier foods are made at and Im sure if you did an online search you will find something.

| Yes, TOTW, Chicken Soup, Premium Edge, Canidae, and Solid Gold are all manufactured by Diamond. I'm sure there could be more but don't know off hand. |

Well, personally I would rather feed my dog with a food from someone that did have problems, than from someone that "didn t" cause..like99% of all dog food in the world had somekind of a recall in their history. Some of the plants just stuck their heads in the sand and tried to keep quiet about it. Diamond didn t. I know they had problems, but I think, they are now more carefull than some others, and they have that 151 check..since that time,no problems,at least not with same issue. I have 4 dogs,2 of them eat Chicken Soup 2 eat Diamond Naturals,we switched from Evo 2 years ago(after recall). Every time I tried to reach Diamond,,or ask them anything, they were really nice and gave me full answer. My dogs are doing great, and one of them is really a senistive one,and TOW is the only food(beside Orijen),that doesn t give him diarrhea. Diamond suffered a lot form the recall, finantially and also on its reputation, but I would give them another chance, rather than giving it to someone that yells "no it can not happen to us"..or someone that yells that, and than says "well it did happen to us,but it is not ours fault" like one other company recently(I will not say the name). We are all humans, and humans do make mistakes, point is,what will we do about it..hide it,or say, yeap we did made a mistake,we will do everything to prevent it,(like Diamond)..and can you say this for some other companies that had recallls? No. Why? Cause they just put it under the carpet.. Go to FDA web site, and look at it. My gosh,am I tyred of people saying Diamond makes bad food, and they are feeding their dogs to a food that is having a huge recall at that time... Not to mention the brands that are still using some of preservatives that are known to be toxic or cancerogenic. | |

| One more thing, all the brands you have mentioned are really meat based brands, without corn,or soy or preservatives..really good stuff, and yeap they are made by Diamond..can you say this for some other companies, like Nestle? They(Nestle) are having recalls all the time, and still making creapy grain based food, with lots of preservatives..but no one is pointing on to them, why? Cause thy are quiet about it..not to mention Royal Canine,or Hills... my Gosh, give Diamond a rest,if you don t want, don t feed with their food, but stop spreading the panic among those who want to try it,cause you are just stopping them from feeding a great food to their dogs, especialy Premium Edge,Chicken Soup,Taste of the Wild,or Canidae. And that is just based on some mistakes that happened years ago..after that so many brands had problems, and they didn t ..so what about that!!!?? |
