| two vets answered two ways i need help i need help on this. just bred my precious easter sunday at 6. she was tied. anyway that was the only time i saw her tied and we took him back to his owner. precious is 33 days since. i took her to the vet 31 days and they felt her and said they felt nothing. vet did a ultrasound said she saw nothing but had never done this before so no charge on that. called another vet that vet said that it was too soon to tell at 31 days they needed to be 42-43 days for a ultra sound cause you can't tell that early, and you cant feel puppies that soon. she is 5 pounds bred with a 3 1/4 pound male yorkie. any adivse on this matter. she has thrown up and has alittle nipple area puffiness could just be fat lol tummy seems to be tucked yet and she sleeps all the time. she is not as playful or doesnt' eat that much. please help |

| An U/S can be done somewhere on or after the 25th day I think. Palpation is usually easiest between 20 and 30 days. They can also do blood work to check for relaxin.

| We had ultrasound done on day 33 and showed one verifiable heartbeat. Ultrasounds are tricky but x-rays twords the end of pregnancy show calcification and can be seen better.

| I had an ultrasound on Zoe at 31 days and the vet says she has at least 3 in there. And I have to say, that I could really tell myself that her belly was changing. By about 35 days, I could tell just by looking at her myself. Last edited by tjdmom; 05-14-2009 at 04:13 PM. |

I'm confused by what you mean in the part of your post that I quoted. Do you mean that Precious is 6 years old? If so, is this her first pregnancy? If it is, you need to be concerned with her age. The uterus tends to thicken up with each heat cycle if she is not bred. Most breeders won't breed a girl for the first time after they're 3 years old for this reason and will retire a girl by age 6. If she is pregnant for the first time at age 6, you need to be in close contact with your vet for possible pregnancy and/or whelping complications.
