Thank you so much for providing this information. I just undered the Merrick Wilderness Blend dog food for my little guy. Has anyone else used this and did you baby like it?

I never tried it but if it turns out to be good for your little guy I would like to hear more about it. In the meantime I will stick with OBT food which cured my dog of his problems.

Oh wow, this is shocking! I am a NEW yorkie owner and had no idea what to feed him so I started him out on the Eukanuba puppy! I am still confused as to what to feed him!:confused:

You'll find the food "game" can be overwhelming and confusing! Many of us have been through several switches in a search for the right food for our furkids. In addition to healthy ingredients, you also just have to consider what your puppy is willing to eat!

Everyone here is very informative and helpful. And threads like this make it all much easier to wade through the amount of info available about food.

We just switched to one that doesn't get much press that our groomer carries. Fromm.

I started with Salmon and both of ours love it. I went by to pick up more and they were out of Salmon in the small bag so I tried White Fish and Potato. I also cut back on how much I'm feeding them because since our skinny little Charlie got snipped, he's become not to skinny and eats like a horse. I can't just keep the bowl full anymore, I need to put out what they need for the day and that's it.

Sophie likes the Whitefish fine, but Charlie has taken his time warming up to it, but that's good, because he's eating what he should now instead of whatever is there. The Whitefish is also a different shape which might have thrown him off.

The ingredients is what really caught my attention and the fact that we can switch protein as we see fit. I started with fish to see if Sophie's foot biting was an allergy to chicken.

They had not health problems and the stool was fine, but now, it's even better and they seem to really like this stuff, and it's healthy.

I haven't applied the scoring grid to it yet, but glancing through, it should score high.

The only down side is their heads smell like fish. :D If we could keep them from playing, when each of their faces spend a great deal of time in each others mouth, maybe the fish breath wouldn't transfer. :p But I can't do that, half the day is laughter and smiles watching them go at it. I don't know how these little guys can store all that energy but they are a pure joy to watch. I even get down and stick my head into the pile sometimes. ;)

Thanks for your informative & pleasant post.:) I searched in my area for Fromm & our local pet shop carries it...will have to try it! 2 of mine have allergic problems & they're scratching their face & licking their paws right after they eat. Also after their daily walks, so I think it's enviromental & possibly food related as well. They were on Temaril, but the doc wanted it tapered off.

It's a sticky in the Yorkie Health & Diet Forum. Always read the ingredients, the first 5 on top of the list is what makes the bulk of the food.

The shop I buy it from has a basket of samples she gives out to try. I didn't even go through all the samples to know mine loved it and bought a bag. Which by the way, I was pleasantly surprised to find is priced competitively with other premium foods, actually less that I thought.

It's worth reading about the company and how and where the ingredients come from. It sounds like they run it like a restaurant, sourcing ingredients locally each day.

Wellness Super 5 Mix for Small Breeds
 

I was feeding my baby girl, Allie, the Royal Canin for Yorkshire Terriers. Since we have had her, she would never eat it from her bowl - only from my hand. The past couple of days she would not eat it but once a day, so I came to Yorkie Talk to see what everyone else is feeding their babies. I decided to try Wellness Super 5 Mix for Small Breeds & purchased a small bag from Petco just to see if she would like. My goodness - she ate the entire meal without any enticing. Thank you for sharing all the information on this forum to help me make a wise decision.

Royal Canin is what Jorja came to me with. She did get to where she wouldn't eat it so her Vet gave me some Purina EG (only available from Veterinarians). She's at the point now that she turns up her nose at that.

Yorkies are notorious for being picky & can have off days where they won't eat too much & will pick at their food. I like to mix in healthy things they can have, foods like: diced frozen green beans (good source of fiber & since they're already cooked, they are easily digestible), cooked carrots, hard boiled egg whites, scrambled eggs.
I also had to change foods several times until they found the one they liked.:p
