Senior Yorkie Talker | Go to the Vet or wait? Hi everyone! So I was wondering... when I pick up my 8wk old Bella on the 17th (she would have gotten her first set of shots on the 12th) should I still go and visit our local Vet so that he could check her out? Or should I just wait 3-4wks until I take her to get her second set of shots? Does anyone have some suggestions as to do's and don'ts on her first days home with us? |

Phantom Queen Morrigan Donating Member | Most breeders have it in their contracts that you need to take the pup to your vet within the first 24-72 hours (depending on the breeder). If you wait a few weeks and the vet finds something wrong that could have been detected right when your brought her home then the contract with the breeder is void.

Donating YT 10K Club Member | Yes take her to the vet within the first couple of days for a puppy wellness exam. Be sure to take a fecal sample with you. Also most contracts require you to take them to the vet's within the first 2-3 days unless you made other arrangements with the breeder. If she is very small you will need to be vigilant against hypoglycemica. Make sure she eats frequent meals through out the day and also have nytrical on hand.

yes, i would take her to the vet for a health check ASAP, it is really important. most breeders will say in their contract that you need to take it to a vet check to validate the health guarantee. 8 weeks is REALLY young to be bring her home, this could be problematic for you and the puppy. usually the earliest to bring home a yorkie puppy is 12 weeks. they still have many things to learn from the mom and siblings. it is best for you and the puppy if you can wait till she is at least 12 weeks old. i am not sure why the breeder is letting the dog leave so early...
