| ![]() Sounds more to me like a puppy mill. You need to report this woman if it's a law there. I'm not really sure where you would report her, but, I would definitely be doing it. You could call animal control first and tell them the story and what you expect is going on, see if they can at least point you in the right direction |

VA ST § 3.2-5900 - 6590 § 3.2-6510. Sale of unweaned or certain immature animals prohibited, vaccinations required for dogs and cats; penalty A. No person shall sell, raffle, give away, or offer for sale as pets or novelties, or offer or give as a prize, premium, or advertising device any living chicks, ducklings, or other fowl under two months old in quantities of less than six or any unweaned mammalian companion animal or any dog or cat under the age of seven weeks without its dam or queen. Dealers may offer immature fowl, unweaned mammalian companion animals, dogs or cats under the age of seven weeks for sale as pets or novelties with the requirement that prospective owners take possession of the animals only after fowl have reached two months of age, mammalian companion animals have been weaned, and dogs and cats are at least seven weeks of age. Nothing in this section shall prohibit the sale, gift, or transfer of an unweaned animal: (i) as food for other animals; (ii) with the lactating dam or queen or a lactating surrogate dam or queen that has accepted the animal; (iii) due to a concern for the health or safety of the unweaned animal; or (iv) to animal control, an animal shelter, or a veterinarian. B. Dealers shall provide all dogs and cats with current vaccinations against contagious and infectious diseases, as recommended in writing and considered appropriate for the animal's age and breed by a licensed veterinarian, or pursuant to written recommendations provided by the manufacturer of such vaccines at least five days before any new owner takes possession of the animal. For dogs, the vaccinations required by this subsection shall include at a minimum canine distemper, adenovirus type II parainfluenza, and parvovirus. For cats, the vaccinations required by this subsection shall include at a minimum rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, and panleukopenia. Dealers shall provide the new owner with the dog's or cat's immunization history. C. A violation of this section is a Class 3 misdemeanor. If she sells this puppy to you at five weeks old, she is in violation of the law and can be found guilty of a class B misdemeanor and fined $500. If you tell her you are going to report her to animal control/police, I suspect she will give you your deposit back. If she refuses, contact your Attorney General. Please, please don't even consider getting this puppy.

| ![]() If your vet is not the one to report her to, he would know the right law folks to report her to, if indeed it is against the law there to sell a pup before it is 7 weeks old. Your vet can help you with what the pup weighs and what it should eat and how much, how often, etc Oh, and tell him what she gave you to worm the puppy, it might not be right either! |

Yorkie Yakker | ![]() Thank you again! She said that a neighbor was taking care of the adults but couldn't be there to feed the babies during the day. Should I get some puppy milk for her to mix with the canned puppy food? If so, what kind do you all recomend? |

| ![]() Ladymom has it going on there, she has good sense! I would take her advice! I have learned something here tonight!!! I would think this puppy miller will probably sell the pup to someone else who has no idea what is going on. She won't let anything happen to it, as it means money to her! |

| ![]() The puppy can eat from the mom, it should not be away from the mother. The mother has the perfect food and the perfect temperature and cleaning device for the puppy. Don't worry about that puppy, this gal is going to make money on it any which way she can! You on the other hand may lose your money and get a pup that won't last very long, no matter how good you take care of it! Then you will be out of money and a puppy. It won't be your fault, but you will blame yourself. Please take Ladymom's advice. I would! I honestly belive her advice is the best here tonight!! |

Yorkie Yakker | ![]() ...and if she does sell her to someone else or even lies about her age? Then what? I totally agree that something should be done about the breeder, but knowing the time I am able to give her...24/7...would she not be better off with me knowing the truth? Would she not have a better chance with me than someone who has no clue what is going on with her or maybe even her real age? I live less than 2 miles from a vet if there is an emergency, and am fully prepared to take care of her around the clock knowing that is what it is going to take...I just need to know what she is going to need from me so that I can be FULLY prepared (i.e. what supplies do I need to have on hand to care for her)! I'm not going into this with blinders on and as a Mom of a once premie baby (now 11 years old), I know that this is going to be a very long, hard, and exhausting road. |

You have no idea what vet bills and heartbreak you are setting yourself up for. Please read this. Keep in mind that this puppy was two weeks older, too. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/sic...k-he-sick.html

| ![]() Well that is a good question. I would first start with the local animal control. They will investigate this woman and her breeding practices because this is definitely animal cruelty. I would first off make sure you have all your ducks in a row, get your puppy from her and then call the county animal control they will direct you through the proper channels.

You can search on line for a whelping pad or try a local pet store. You can also purchase a sling type carrier...this holds puppy up against you and they really like the security feeling it provides. A friend of mine lived in Korea when she got her first yorkie...Kimmee was 6 weeks old. It's not advisable...but it certainly happens.

| ![]() I REALLY understand that you're torn and it's evident that you have your heart set on this little one. The thought of already loving her and then possibly having something happen to her IF you don't get her and take care of her yourself is probably at the forefront of your mind, which is understandable, but others are correct...this is WRONG and something does needs to be done about this unethical breeder. I'm sure you would have legal grounds to get your deposit back. As far as little Ellie, I just pray you don't get your heart broken later when you've had more time and love invested. I know your heart already belongs to this little one but not as much as when you bring her home. I wish you and Ellie the best of luck, whatever you decide. We're all here for you!

Yorkie Yakker | ![]() Velobabe...Thank you for your understanding! You hit the nail on the head! I do feel like she is mine...I am just as torn with this as I was seeing my baby boy (born @ 28 weeks) laying in NICU! At this point I just want someone to tell me that she may be ok if I bring her home! I would love to string this woman up by her toenails for what she is doing to all of these babies...NOT JUST MINE...but I also have the Mother in me kicking and screaming that she is mine and I have to take care of her! It would be great if someone could tell me what I need to do to take care of her and what to look out for rather than just saying report the breeder! Reporting the breeder will do what? It won't save the puppies and a $500 would be nothing to someone that is selling puppies @ $1500! I have every intention of reporting the breeder but I feel like I have to try to save Ellie no matter the cost ($$, mentally, physically, or emotionally) I am really not trying to make anyone angry and I do value all of your opinions, but I feel like I am gambling with Ellie's life if I don't try to take care of her! |
