I know she is way to young to be away from the Mommy but I got My male at 6 weeks and 1 lb and he was fine. Never had a hypo episode or anything. I just wanted to give you some reasurrance. My second little girl was only 12 oz when I brought her home and again no problems. Just make sure she is eating about every 3 hrs and that she doesnt over tire herself

Oh and you wont need the heating pad. Good luck I would be doing the same thing your doing

As for contacting a rescue, I have already started researching that. I have found 3 Yorkie Rescue groups here in Virginia and have contacted them all...waiting to hear back. I have also contacted AKC and my local SPCA who has given me the contact information for SPCA and AC in the county where the breeder lives.

I do have the time and more than enough patients to care for Ellie. I am at home 24/7, my children are all in school from 8:30 - 4:00 everyday, and the vet is less than 2 miles away and he is on call 24/7 for emergencies! I do have knowledge of caring for tiny babies from kittens covered in fleas with white mouths to helping my rabbit deliver her kits when they were breech. Ellie will have me all to herself and I don't think that too many people out there could be more prepared to deal with whatever may happen. All I was asking for was advice on what to expect from a 5 week old puppy.

If anyone was to be stuck in this situation, I'm glad it's you. Sounds like you have the knowledge and compassion to deal with this little wee one.

Shame on the breeder. I would have organized a caregiver of some sort for the Mom and pups to remain together a few weeks longer.

Yes, I agree that there was a thread a couple of months ago
with the same story. That's the first thing I thought of when

I'm glad someone else remembered that thread. I mean it was written almost identical to this one. The breeder had 5 week old pups and there was an emergency and she had to leave. I'm thinking I remember who it was, can't remember her name, but, it's actually been a few mos. back, and the puppy was a yorkie mix, and the lady was from SC and I believe the last thread I've seen on here, the lady that got the puppy has cancer, and she was wanting to know if we all thought it would be okay if her sister kept the puppy for her for awhile. Is this the one I'm thinking of Carol?

I think the most important thing to do is make sure the pup eats every 3 hours and drinks. And remember the pup needs lots of rest

Does anyone know where this post was located? I have tried looking for it but that is like looking for a needle in a haystack! I can tell you that the breeder that I am working with is in Virginia not South Carolina.

I tried finding it, with no luck. I think the ladies name was Cathy, but, I can't remember what her dogs name was or what screen name she used. But, it was really almost the same exact same thing happening to her as it was you with the pup being 5 weeks and a family emergency.

Puddin was really big, too. She was close to two pounds at six weeks which is more the size standard Yorkies are when they go home at 12 weeks:

Best of luck with your new puppy. It is great that your home 24/7. This is ideal. As long as the puppy is eating every few hrs and drinking well she will do fine. I am sure you will give her plenty of love and care. I am glad she is going to you. Keep us updated on her progress.
