Update on Hot Rod

Hey everyone, sorry to worry you, all is good. I took a break and started some weeding in the garden just to get some fresh air. Took all day and only did one flower bed!!! My back is killing me today. Ouch!!!

Anyhoo, my little guy is okay. He's not using his leg as much as I thought he would. I don't know if is hurting him or not but he's really not increasing his usage. When he does put in down, he seems to be using it very gingerly. I may be just imagining it, I don't know.

He seems to be getting really depressed though. He's been pawing at his crate and looking sooo sad. I think that he's been kinda of snappy with Maggie. He's barked at her and then he's also starting to make a really strange whiney/barky sound. I know this at Maggie as she will "talk" back to him. She won't bark but she'll make some growly kinda of noises.

This morning he barked to get out of the crate...he has never barked to get out. I think he was mad that I got up and took Maggie out first and didn't come back up to get him right away. Then he wouldn't eat for me! Not even chicken! I went to take him out of his crate to hold him and he just looked at me and turned away!!! I finally stuck my head in there, yes I stuck my head into the crate and he turned around and gave me kisses and then allow me to take him out of the crate. lol. he's been on a pillow, sleeping between my arms while I've been on YT this morning. lol.

I don't know what I'm going to do for the next 4 weeks and 4 days!:sad::sad:

Well since my post this morning, hubby took Hot Rod outside to potty and hubby said that Hot Rod stood on his leg that was operated on and lifted his other to do his business! :) So I would say that his leg is doing okay afterall!:D

He is also in a much better mood this afternoon. Giving me lotsa kisses now. I guess he just woke up on the wrong side of the bed (crate). :p

Thanks! So far he's okay using his leg. But he did slip today when I went to take him out of his crate to go out. He started to shake himself off and step off the area run and wiped out. I was so scared that he hurt himself but I think is was more surprised than anything. :2omg: He didn't yelp or anything and he walked on his leg when he went potty. Phew!

Happy Easter to you and your family. How's Tatum doing?

Awww, thanks for checking up on Hot Rod. He's doing fine! :D I pretty much had him out of the crate yesterday evening. After dinner we all settled down on the sofa both he and I fell asleep. I had tied a piece of yarn to his harness to my wrist in case he tried to get off the arm of the sofa. He is really good about just laying there with me. I think it boosted his spirits being able to be "out" with us. ;)

But OMG! Maggie scared the beegeebers out of us though!! All of a sudden she ran over to daddy, who was sitting on the floor watching tv, screaming at the top of her lungs!! She wouldn't stop screaming. I ran over to where she had been to see if she may have swallowed the bully she'd been gnawing on. I didn't see it and thought the worst! I tried to compress her chest and she screamed even louder! I was just about ready to call the emergency clinic when she stopped. She kinda coughed up and started to breath normally. Her heart was still pounding like crazy.

She was licking her lips the whole time leading me to believe that something was stuck in her throat. She quieted down and of course just wanted to be held. She was fine after that and I did, in fact, find the bully she'd been chewing. I took it away asap. Took her out to potty and she did. I don't know if it was the bully or maybe her needed to potty?:( when she came back in she immediately stole Hot Rod's bully. She's been fine ever since so I have no idea what it was. I'm just glad that she is okay because the emergency clinic is a good 20-25 minutes away! that was rally scary to go thru. She's been back to her normal self today. :):)

I very much believe Maggie May just wanted the same amount of attention Hot Rod is getting  I am so glad she's ok, trust me, I know how scary that it! Maybe she bit her tongue or lip?

So Ranger is on schedule with the rest of them- 5 days post-op and he threw up this morning. I think the meds are getting to him. I called my vet about stopping the antibiotics (he only has one day left) but he said to stick it out and finish the course. I will be giving him some probiotics later on today, and again tonight. I ALWAYS give probios during antibiotics but I think due to the madness of all this I completely spaced it. Go figure eh?

I am so glad Hot Rod is doing well. We should be getting Ranger's new harness from Cindy very soon so he can spend more time out of the crate. Seven weeks to go......

That's good to hear Ranger is doing well! How long does he have to be in the crate? Our sugeon told us 6 weeks. Is Ranger on a longer regime?

I didn't think about Maggie biting her tounge or lip. She's sound asleep in the bed which I have on my desk for them just snoring away! lol. She's is my little snorer. lol!

You know, our surgeon was pretty laid-back about everything. He said keep him from doing crazy stuff for two months, but sounded like he could start going on walks and stuff 4-6 weeks into recovery. On a leash of course and not for super long walks. They will be calling to check up on us in a month and and I will go over it in more detail then. He will also be rechecked and xrayed by my vet 8 weeks post-op. As for now, he really stressed no jumping, which is why he has to stay on a leash because he springs up on the couch and back off in the blink of an eye!!

It's so nice to have you and Brooke a week ahead of me :p

I just read Brooke's thread that Tatum is getting her stitches out today. Yay for Tatum! I bet Brooke is so happy about that!! :D Hopefully Hot Rod's will come out on Wed. when we go for our 2 week checkup.

I would really have preferred to see his surgeon but he's out of town this week. He was emphatic that he would be there for his 6 week visit though. Hot Rod's surgeon stressed no jumping as well and only walking enough to potty. He did say he could be a 3 x 3 area. My concern is keeping him from standing on his hinds if we make the expen smaller for him. I am trying to see about putting something on top of it to keep him from doing that. I actually sat in the pen with him the other night while he just walked around me. I think he was happy to be able to stretch some. :)

2 Week Check-Up

Well, Hot Rod's 2 week check up was today and he passed with flying colors!

:happyboun:happyboun:happyboun

We saw another surgeon as our surgeon told us he would be on vacation and she said that he was perfect as far as things feeling like they should be and the incision is healed up nicely! Everything is progressing right along as scheduled! Yay!

I asked about physical therapy for Hot Rod and she said that we could do some range of motion type of exercise and hot and cold therapy if we wanted to. I had asked about having him our hot tub (he loves it :p) for some exercise, therapy and she said that she would defer that to our surgeon. Our surgeon wants Hot Rod to be limited in his movement for the time of his recuperation. He still is not using his leg fully, just puts it down and may take a couple of steps at a time as the surgeon told us might happen. :(

He has stood on his hinds  (big no, no) to try and jump up on me while I am kneeling down with him during a potty break in the garage so he can't be that far from using his leg more. :)

So it's all good! He's on his way! Just 4 more weeks. :p
Oh and the surgeon said that he could have a bath as of today, YES! My little stinker needs one! :D
