We got to pick him up at 11:00 am and the doctor came in and spoke with us and answered all of our questions. He re-emphasized keeping him still for 6 weeks.

The surgery went very well and smoothly. He made the groove in his knee cap deeper and tightened the ligaments. The dr believes that with proper aftercare he should be good to go with no more issues. He also believes that the leg will be okay as it is and that he might still walk with the leg out but eventually it will be fine. He goes back in 2 weeks to have his stitches taken out.

When the tech brought him in he jumped right into my arms but wouldn't kiss me at all :(. He gave daddy kisses though :rolleyes: lol.

sorry I didn't post earlier but I have holding him for the last couple of hours.:D Poor Maggie May, she was soooo excited to see him but he just wanted to be quiet and actually snapped at her. She just left him alone. I tried to get her to lay on the sofa with us but she went to the chair and went to sleep. She is now in between my arms as I am typing. lol.

Thank you all again for all of your well wishes and prayers, they meant a lot and got me through this stressful time. :) Here are a couple of pictures.

Yay!! Hot Rod's home! He looks so comfy all snuggled up to mommy. I will pray for a quick recovery! Did the doctor have any recommendations on HOW to keep him still for 6 weeks?

Welcome home Hot Rod! Mommie must be so happy to have you back. Wow, for 6 weeks...that's a long time, but it's amazing how these little guys heal so quickly. Now (soon) it's a matter of how to keep him from running around everywhere!:D

Oh Hot Rod I am sooooo happy baby boy to see you home and in your mama's arms. That's where he wants to be you can tell. He feels safe and warm and at home.

Keep us posted on how he is doing...so happy that he pulled through this OK. :D

Yay, I am so happy to hear that he is home now, and everything went good! Hope he has a fast recovery and be back to himself very soon. I bet you are soo happy to have him home.

Glad to hear he is home with you now and resting. Does he have a fentanyl patch and pain meds? those "should" keep him a little quieter for the next few days (i say should because, well, we all know yorkies lol). As for ways to keep him quiet, we always recommend a crate or x-pen. however if he bounces around in his ex-pen then it is no good. The less movement the better, besides his 3 walks a day to go potty. with little dogs we also recommend doggie carriers if the owners like to have the dog with them all the time and if the dog tolerates them.

i shouldn't have looked at the pictures, i'm already hesitating setting up meaty's surgury. poor little guy, is he in pain?

I am so glad to hear he's home and doing well. All the YT prayers work.

Dr said to keep him an area 3 x 3. I'm going to borrow my friends german shepherds crate for him. As for keep him still, I don't know? :eek:

Thank you everyone for all your well wishes. It's going to be a long 6 weeks! We've had a couple of incidents already where I either put my hand in the wrong spot or he tried to put his leg down and he's yelped in a lot of pain. I have just been trying to hold him very still and he's been sleeping most of the day. I was trying to get him to eat dinner but he doesn't seem interested right now.

Yay...Hot Rod is home. What a little trooper! I betcha he can't wait until he's fully recovered so that he can play with his sis. BTW, I thought they would put a cast on him?? Do they put a cast on him later after the stiches are out?

You know, I was wondering the same thing. This was the first night ever that he hasn't spent with us and I was so afraid that he would think that he was being abandoned! Then I worried that he wouldn't remember us. lol. But as soon as he lept into my arms I knew he did--little booger remembered okay, he gave daddy kisses and just snubbed me. :eek::(:rolleyes:

No apologies needed for waiting to get back to us. Of course you would want to spend your time with your baby boy. I hope his recovery continues to progress nicely and that you don't have to much of a hard time keeping him still. They brought him back to us all wrapped up in the blanket that I left with him so I didn't see the site at first. I just assumed that there was a bandage over it but the dr unwrapped him and I got a little queazy when I saw the incision.

He is in pain but I do have pain medication for him. I know it is an awful thing to have to do but if your little one needs it, it is far better to do this than to have major issues down the road. I wish you the best in your decision. :)

I thought that he would have one also. I didn't ask and the dr didn't say but I don't think so. Where he has the incision is the thigh part of his leg so it would be at an really weird angle for anything like a cast to be on. I wish it could have been done because then I think his leg would tend to move as much.:confused:

I guess you'll need to keep a close eye on him so that he doesn't lick his incision. Oh gosh, I'm sure this whole thing is so nerve wrecking. I don't know how I'll be able to go through this with Cassi if she does need surgery for her LP. Poor little baby...

Poor baby glad he's home and it gets better from here.

One of the good things is that since this all really happened quickly and the dr had an opening, I didn't have too much time to think about it. That is-to ponder all the yuky stuff about it. I am just glad that is was this scenario as the way the dr explained it, there could be 3 different reasons as why lp happens. This was the way that seemed (to me at least) the least traumatic and most positive outcome. Now that he's home and on the mending side, I am glad we did it. Dr said that he will have have arthritis issues from this which I was really concerned about.

We had an old dog with arthritis she took Rimadyl and did great.
