sammys front teeth are loose WHY?

I was fearful of Roxy loosing her fronts, but she still has her fangs and the one that is right in front of each fang. Sometimes her little tongue sticks out, but it did before too! I am much more happy that those bad teeth are out

yea, the past few days we stopped giving him the rat, he wants it so bad. he would definatly make a great ratter ! i am just unsure if i should let him play and if they fall out, oh well. but i will bring him to the vet this week.

I'd probably pull all tug and chew toys until he sees the vet.
It will be okay.
All of Ellie's front teeth are gone except for her fangs.
Some of the ones on the sides are gone also.
She does fine with it and this happened at age 5.
She is now 7.

i am taking sammy to the vet on friday morning. he has a 10:15 am appointment.
i will let you guys know the outcome of this appointment.

so i took sammy to the vet this morning, she said his teeth are loose because he probably had a poor diet from the breeder when i got him at 14 months.
so she said to do nothing about his loose teeth, they will fall out on there own. alot of yorkies have this problem. she said i can give him his rat to play with, it wont hurt him.
she said he does not need a cleaning because i am doing a great job brushing his teeth
she then asked me what i feed him and i told her i had fed him a homecooked diet , then about 3 months ago i switched to raw and the honest kitchen,.

she told me he can salmonella and other horrible things if i continue to feed him raw. she also said he is not getting proper nutrition. i should be giving him a multi vitamin and cosequin. oh and he belongs eating dry hard kibble.
she said he has between stage 2 and 3 kneecaps, lp.
she wants me to switch to science diet, iams or euckenuba-i spelled it wrong.sorry.
i am so upset about this, i think i am doing the right thing and then to be told he can get sick is very upsetting.
i think i will try to post something about the raw diet in another post.

*sigh* this is typical for vets to say. Sadly they dont' get a whole lot of education in school about animal nutrition. And they are usually paid by the food companies you mentioned to sell the food- so she is just doing what she thinks is best. But stand your ground- honest kitchen is great and yes there is a chance you can get salmonella with raw- but i still think it is a great choice for feeding your pup. He is YOUR dog, and you need to stand up for what you think you are doing right for him- and I think you are feeding him great food- many on here will agree. And even if you weren't- Science diet, Iams or Eukanuba are NOT the foods to be feeding. Stick with what you are doing.

As for the cosequin- it probably would help his LP and at least delay his need for surgery.

the vet said to me what would happen to your teeth is all you ate all your life is soup? he needs hard kibble.

i also think that is wrong- kibble does very very little for their teeth- like she said- they are in GREAT condition because you brush them- our teeth dont' get cleaned by what we eat do they? we could eat soup all day and if we brush our teeth they will be just fine. Again, she is just trying to sell you on her kibble- so you don't need to find one. Also- raw contains bone fragments- those are crunchy tell her And if you are feeding raw i dont' think you need a multi vitamin- i could be wrong but i'm pretty sure those diets- as well as using the honest kitchen- are balanced- but if you want a definite asnwer- ask LuvMySissy she feeds honest kitchen and knows a lot about it- she is super nice and would be more than happy to answer your questions.

oh i also think you aren't supposed to feed raw and kibble at the same time- can't remember why- but i do remember reading that...

thanks so much, i feel so much better. i want to do the very best for sammy. she said his teeth did not need a cleaning, she was very very surprised because his teeth are free of plaque and tartar.

it's hard when vets tell you one thing and you are doing another- it is automatic to think they know best- but i'm not sure that is true about everything- you have to do your homework- which you have done with raw and honest kitchen- and stick to your guns and tell her- this is what i am doing- if you can't support that I can find another vet. Layla's vet knew NOTHING about home cooking but she was willing to listen to me and learn. Same thing with the vaccines that i would not give her. I was prepared to pack up and go to a vet who would support the way I wanted Layla to be cared for- but we got VERY lucky with our vet- that being said- she recommends crap food too- they just don't know any better sometimes.

Talk to LuvMySissy (Jodie) she will be a HUGE help and will definitely put your mind at ease.

it's tough- i think holistic is good- but i mean sometimes you just need antibiotics Maybe you just need a vet who is more open minded- i mean you are paying GOOD money for this person to look after your dog and you don't want to be paying someone who is trying to convince you you aren't doing a good job with your boy. When i switched to Layla's vet (because our oringinal vet did not support home cooking OR less vaccination and i wasn't paying him to make me feel bad) I told her about the things that were important to me and WHY they were important.. and she said she was willing to give it a go.

When Layla was diagnoised with pancreatitis her vet wantd her on a prescription canned food (Which i call canned crap) and i told her i just couldn't do it- i HAD to give it a go with home cooking- i consulted a nutrionist and Layla's blood tests now come back PERFECT_ you have to stick to what you believe in. Her vet said it wasn't possible on a home cooked diet and voila- look who was right ME

i am so glad layla is doing well on homecooked food. sammy was doing well but i really wasnt sure about all the supplements. thats why i switched to raw and the honest kitchen. he is so crazy for that food.
this is my 3rd vet since i got him in 2006. i do not really think they care that much about your pet, they are all in it for the money. this is new york and i have been to 3 vets so far and none of them do i like, very cold people.

keep looking. I tried to ask the receptionist on the phone just- do you know how the vet feels about home cooking? do you know how the vet feels about vaccines...

If you are having a hard time- try looking for a holistic vet and ask the receptionist- does this vet use medication when it is needed or do they only subscribe to natural remedies...

It is hard to find a good vet- but it is worth the search- you need to have complete confidence for simple things- like check ups- but more importantly if something serious happens- then is not the time to be looking for a great vet.
